In just about every way possible, @playername is more important than vestige name.

If a character chooses not to share their player name, then yes, there is some anonymity. Most would argue that it's not enough. So somebody looking towards removing even that small bit, is asking for A LOT.

Except players don't choose to not share their name, there is no choice. Ignoring someone shows it, adding them to your friend's list shows it, and it shows it in the clan. There is no anonymity in this game. The tell system needs work.

Kudos for advertising how to get another player's account name, despite what those players would prefer. Good job, I'm sure many will be grateful.

So stop forgetting to get their account name. Problem solved.

Wow! We've got a cave troll!!!

If people want their @ kept a secret, then ESO should have thought of a better /whisper system that utilizes a players name rather than their @ name... But with how it is currently set up, and if ESO plans to keep the messaging system the way it is, they need to start changing all players name in chat dialoge to reflect the @ name, because it is very annoying...The character name is more secretive and harder to whisper than an @ name.

Still doesn't make sense. If you're logged in, and chatting with "Krull the Destroyer', then log out and back in with an alt, you can still message" Krull the Destroyer". In fact, any character in game can.

This is not the case. This is the case if "Krull the Destroyer" player is on your friends list or within your guild though.

I wonder about something else. Security. My account is protected by BOTH my password and my account name. Giving away half of the equation seems like a very poor decision.

Actually, you're mistaken. The only instance where you can't message a character directly in that instance is when it's cross-faction chat. If they're the same faction, there's no problem.
