I recently resuscribed after quitting shortly after release. There are many things I love about this game. The looks, the immersive feel and it being Elder Scrolls. Finally with the EU server it also plays quite responsive. I can live with bugs, lags, crashes, even lack of content, but wanting the freedom of a TES game I cannot accept one thing:
The horrible underlying imbalances of the class/skill system.
With the new 1.3 sets I tried several combinations of skills and epic or even legendary vr12 sets to make a more unique, stamina or weapon based character work. It is impossible (as sorc at least). Nothing comes even close at the effectiveness of a light armor caster which I despise. When I quit at least reaver build with crit surge was somehow viable, that's no longer the case with impenetrable stacking. With no way to effectively replenish stamina, all builds based on it are doomed.
Also uniqueness is punished extremely! There is always a cookie-cutter spec in MMOs, but never has the difference been that big. I tried a 5 heavy seducer 5 warlock 2h absorb tank/mage. Though I can basically spam my absorb-shields, they are still not even worth the gcd, it's like a sheet of paper as protection against artillery - not to mention my 2h light attacks with capped weapon damage deal 150 damage per hit.
The stupidity of some basic game mechanics is just stunning and should have been fixed months ago:
- additive percentages: stacking spell penetration negating resists, % spell reduction, impenetrable etc.
- No proper way to sustain stamina or a different scaling for melee and bow weapon light/heavy damage.
- ridiculous advantage of surprise attacks coupled with dismount stun & exploitation. If the fight starts when I'm already below 50% (in heavy armor...) after 1sec it makes PvP roaming stupid and boring especially with the oversized map.
- negligible better damage reduction of medium and heavy armor especially since caps can be reached easily with 1 buff.
- no cooldowns on spells. This is a design decision but there are fundamental flaws with it. E.g. the ability to spam gap closers makes any sort of kiting + sustained damage impossible. At least add more mechanics like on Bolt Escape with increased costs.
