Blocking. i feel like something is a little off

This is not about shields blocking a full 360. This is about something else. Does it bother anyone, that a staff(example) can block EXACTLY as well, as a shield? or am I just whining to much, and need to suck it up?

and I don't mean passives and all that. I mean the fact that both a staff, and a shield can block arrows, for example

Just picture in your mind, a ninja twirl with the staff. Thats how it's really done to block those arrows, they just don't show it due to the heavy graphics

Or a mage like person of old....casting a SHIELD spell, and thats the position he uses to cast it? "The arrows turn the swords repel, may nothing pierce this mortal shell!"

I don't believe (I may be wrong) that staffs mitigate as much damage as shield do..

I'd like to really know the answer, I know with the passives the sword and board mitigate more, plus you get the extra armor with the shield, not to mention an added piece of armor for the set bonus's.

I don't understand why both a sword AND a shield can block arrows, for example. that should be only something a shield can do.

People can catch arrows in their hands. Even seen a guy cut a pellet from a pellet gun in half mid air while drawing his sword. It's weird but I guess it's possible... With everyone wearing cloth I guess we are all ninjas now.

Why isnt it draining his magicka then?

Its not about realism, its about internal consistency. Magic exists in Tamriel, thats one of the setting's rules. Blocking isnt magical in Tamriel tho. Its a physical feat using stamina.

Suggestions about blocking :
. Any front block should be 100% of the actual mitigation, side block should be 75% and 50% for back block in order to allow back stab attacks and tactical positioning
. Considering a value of blocking at 100 for a shield (without passives) , a steel weapon should have a value of 75 and a wooden weapon should have a 50 value
. Heavy infighting attacks should give a guard break for 1 sec (because basically a guard break mecanic is needed, and it should give some love for those slow heavy infighting attacks)
. The 3rd capacity of the shield tree should only be used if you have a shield
. It should be impossible to cast a spell while you are blocking
. A little off topic but all the armor abilities should be used only if you wear at least 5 pieces of the related armor

You sure all weapons blocks as well as a shield?
Maybe its my passives but I've tested it several times and blocking with shield protects me more from the same mob/attack.

Yes it's your passives, if you don't use any passive, shield or staff are the same, that's why i precise "without passives"

Blocking still doesn't respond as quick or reliably as I'd like.
