Respec Q - Does it reset all your progress on a given skill?

Just checking before I take advantage of the respec price:
When you respec, do you lose all leveling done for a skill when you add it back? Or does it remember what you were at before?
And... if I respec, and add back a hireling I had before, does the text of their messages start again from the beginning?

I don't know about the hireling thing, but i do know that their timer gets resetted.Do you mind? I'm busy doing the fishstick, it's a very delicate state of mind.0 -
