Funny I find this thread... Makes me feel a bit better being here. I'm a 40 year old with a disability I won't get into. Suffice to say, computers and games has definitely helped in it's own way.

For those interested, here's an age poll for ESO. Definitely enough older players to post in this thread without having to lie about their age - and more likely to actually do so, based on the content.

Always remember that most elitists aren't nearly as elite as they think they are.

Most have been carried by their guild officers since they started playing MMOs, and really have no business instructing anyone on anything without giving the caveat that they heard this from someone else, and in no way have they researched it themselves. The ones that taught them tend to be more confident in themselves, and so have less need to insult others. So most of the time if some *** starts nerdraging at you, you are being berated by a sheep, and that image should be enough to take the sting out of it.

That's just the problems with too many players in MMOs. There is an emotional distance when you just see the character ingame. At least for most people it seems. They forget that there is a living and feeling human being on the other end. And as all humans do from time to time, makes mistakes. Insulting someone for not being unfailable is just... well, you get my point I guess.
I had some similar situations in ESO and also in other games. Just a little bit more patience while being grouped could solve so many problems or avoid them in the first place.

I am 50, have all my reflexes as well as 35 years of gaming knowledge, and would thrash Raash in gaming. At that point Raash, due to the shear embarrassment of losing to an old guy, you would have no option but to off thy self.

As an individual who participates in SCA on occasion (I used to a lot more in the past) I have had the pleasure of having my ass thoroughly stomped by an older seasoned veteran, in actual combat... on many occasions....

No shame in it, I expect to get my ass handed to me by someone with a *** load more combat experience then me.

SCA is Medevile REenactment for those of you wondering) We go out and bash each other with real swords and wear real armor. And yea it hurts.. A lot. Usually no one gets really injured but hey... it's real combat, you just don't actually "try" to kill each other, though maiming is usually ok....

A similar thing is AmptGuard, but they use fake foam stuff. Still if your not interested in getting knocked the *** out.. Amptguard is great.

Oh and uh.. In RL if someone swings a Broadsword at you.. you don;t try and block it with your daggers you get the hell out of its way..... :P

Yeah that is what I wonder aswell, perhaps as a way to add weight to their words or something? As i said before, I can believe that that there are players that are that old, just not the numbers of them presented on here. its highly improbable.

I'm going to assume you're of the younger generation (which is fine). I apologize ahead of time if I'm making an assumption here, but it almost sounds as though you think older people just would not be into gaming. If that's the case, I can understand your disbelief (bear with me here).

When I was a teenager and in my 20s, (I'm 42, by the way), I always thought "older" people didn't do anything. They had no interests. They just watched TV or read the newspaper. LOL. The older I get, the more I realize I'm still the same person with the same interests and the same personality for the most part that I had back in my 20s. Sometimes I don't even feel like an adult (besides some aches and pains now and then :) ).

My mom is 78. For the longest time, I treated her like a frail older woman with no personality, watching everything I said around her, not wanting to upset her, not really having any meaningful conversations with her because I "couldn't relate." One day for whatever reason, I mentioned to her about how I felt like I wasn't getting any older besides in just years, that I didn't feel any different, that I sometimes didn't even feel like an adult. In a rather exasperated way, she said to me that you will still be the same person (again, for the most part) in your older life as you were in your younger life. She says she feels the same way. After that is when I really got to know my mom. She's not old at all! Sometimes she giggles over things I used to think would be inappropriate for an "older woman" to giggle over, etc. It was really eye-opening.

So anyway, very long story short, if you're disbelief is because you don't think "older" people enjoy the same things you do, I hope I contributed a bit to helping you think of them in a different way. I know I no longer am "afraid" of getting older and turning into someone with no personality or interests. I'm going to be who I am today, which is just fine by me. And I will still be playing games in whatever form they are in the future. :D

Sure, your apology is accepted since I think your really went way off into space with that essey you brought. Fun and somewhat a good read tho. And no harm intended, i bet you just want to help out.
The thing is: is it really likely that so many 50-70 years old are playing this game and let alone camping the forums? In my world no. And i know that you you guys dont think anyone would come up with fantasy age numbers, while I for sure think lots of people does.

Why would we do this. I have been playing games since pong and reading fantasy novels and all that. Some of us actually play because we don't work as much (perhaps medical issues) or many even some players are retired. We live all over (not in the retirement home, lol) There is no reason for anyone to not be truthful here. It simply makes no sense. The issue we bring up we are not really asking anything from Zeni but really...looking to reach out and see if there are others like us in the game.

And even if every, single person here was lying about how old they were and that we are all somewhat intimidated or had bad experience..what does it matter to you? Your disbelief is noted. Several times.

It matters not if you don't believe as it makes it no less true. Older folks do any number of things. My Dad is 71 and still plays golf every week and is BETTER than most everyone on the course. He loves computers and has int he last few years learned tons of things. Though he isn't a gamer he often comes over to check out whatever new thing I am playing and marvels. He thinks it is great.

So believe or not...doesn't matter. Saying it over and over and over ad nauseam won't change it.

As for us that may want to reach out to others.....again feel free to drop me a PM or yell in game (or in-game mail..I sometimes hide when I am online.)

We should all make a guild:
The League of Completely Extra-Ordinary People Willing to Play and Die in All Content.

Ok. for the record, to the disbelievers of advanced age players in mmos...the truth is since DAOC and EQ are now approaching 15 years and up...those folks who played beta then were an average of age 30 because most were in the industry. Fewer people had recreational computers 15 years ago so the math says 45 is a great base line for the continued mmo player.

Second, though I could not find the article, there was a study done when I was playing around with the Vanguard Saga of Hero's beta, about the increasing number of retiree's spending their free time playing online mmo's. That was around six to eight years ago. One can only surmise the numbers would escalate rather than decline.

Remember folks my generation played D&D and Atrai. Do you think growing old makes you grow up? Growing up is optional. Still, no need to stress that point. If you are under 30 you won't likely believe me until it hits you between the eyes somewhere around age 39, same as the rest of us who go before you.

Thing is, there are several stereotypes associated with online gaming.

Players are lazy, not too bright or just plain weird. Fact = higher than average IQ and either college educated or working professionals. Many married with kids.

Few females play mmo's - Fact = some studies say up to 60% of mmo players are female.

Average age 25 - true... Fact: The 50 plus players are growing yearly and I would venture to say at least 25% of the gaming population on games like ESO come from this age group which brings us inline with all the other age catagories. Games like GW2 no...not so much, but that game is an exception.

ESO is perfect for older players because of the quality of the lore and writing.

Of course, all of what I say is IMHO

    Yep!!

Female age almost 43, married with three teens, 3 dogs and multiple electronic things. I have a degree in History with minors in English Lit and Anthropology. I worked for years and years and years and now take care of the kids while fighting all things medical.

I have a life. I don't live with my Mother (I am the Mom!) and have a wide variety of interest.

Guess you just never know what will turn up on the forums. :)

Another 50+ gamer here and just getting into ESO having picked it up last week. It's a great game and am enjoying it very much with my tiny little female Bosmer Templar with a huge heart and an even bigger sword. And I love the fact that you can solo so much of the content.

Be nice to find a group of relaxed older players to run with on the EU server eventually, but after playing Wow, Rift and Guild Wars for years and seeing some of the drama's and tantrums thrown there, even in guilds with supposedly 'older' members, I won't hold my breath.

This is a great thread. Personally I love to PUG because I've met some awesome people that way. I won't bother telling you my age, but it's up there a bit :) My first instinct is to help people out when I see they are in trouble. If you are not EP and want to do some Cyrodiil PvE, also shoot me a message. I promise I won't (try to) kill you :) lol. I have a VR 12 and a 33

Just kidding:P . 44 years old here. Stories like this are the reason that I do not like dungeon crawling or raiding in MMO's. Just today I was invited into a group to do Veteran Dungeons. We hit Banished Halls, and on the second boss, we died once. Well, that was it for a fellow guildmate and the healer. Both of them left. My guildmate just logged off without a word, and the healer called afk for a phone call and never came back.
Well, that is what I get for trying to hop into a dungeon crawl.

Remember, it is only a game.

I'm in my mid 40's. My wife is the sexiest cougar I've ever met (mid 50's), and no matter how slow we progress or how many mistakes either of us make, we will always prefer the other as our grouping partner, no matter what.

Personality > "Skillz" any day of the week, at least for me.

For some peolpe, skillz are more important than anything - good for them, folks like that can play the game their way, and we'll play it our way.

So many of these 'elites' can't get it through their head that yes, sometimes, they -are- better than some of the other players around them. If that means you don't want to group with 'lessers', then join a guild of elites like in the old days, and bond with your own.

Either way, to cop an attitude like this elite d-bagg did is really uncalled for. OP - you deserve better. Realize you're the bigger person and move on to find some folks who are like-minded and more interested in the game rather than being 'uber'.

More power to you, I'm 22 years of age so both my parents are getting up there in age. Grew up gaming because of my mother, she still games.

Not all top tier players are such ***. People use the word elitist player in a negative sense which I believe is incorrect usage of the word. As the players people complain about are inept at teaching, as thats more than half the battle of learning. So don't low tolerance to heart, if someone loses there *** it's on them for not trying to fix it appropriately.
    ----
Also, as a side note. I noticed you mentioned issues with your fingers.
There is an actual tab target system in this game just hit [tab] or whatever key you wish it to be binded to. It will outline an enemies hitbox with opach brackets, this is the target box.

This will lock your accuracy in to that single target. Even if you're slow to face the target you're skill will hit as long as you're in range and the target is tab selected. This may help you react better with less things to focus on, just a thought.

To clear the tab target look away where no enemies are and hit tab again. To cycle through targets simply hit tab again until you reach your correct target.

You may already know of this, just suggesting what comes to mind.

I'm 28 & female, I enjoy questing, but i'm not amazing in dungeons (I had to reassign my ultimate as i kept hitting it by mistake!). I quite like dolomens and world bosses as you are not forced to group, but need to play with others.

More importantly, I like having fun and i like the lore & crafting. It would be great to find a guild of like minded people (whatever their age), and if someone is a top level player for them to pass on their knowldge and tips rather than berate someone for getting it wrong on occasion. I don't want to find exploits to level faster, I just want to work through, levelling my skills as I go
