I'm a new player, only level 10 so far, but I've read that a total respec at level 50 can cost over 10k gold, sometimes this is cost prohibitive.

Again, I know I'm a newer player but doesn't that seem to be too high? I'm afirad right now to even commit my points as I know I'm probably going to make a mistake just because I'm so new to the game.

I could follow a build posted online but I'd rather experiment on my own. The respec costs, however make this risky.

    1. They've dramatically reduced the cost of a respec all this week.
    2. It isn't too expensive, but people seem to think that choices shouldn't matter.

I think with this patch skill respect cost is like 1 gold per skill point

Everyone has been screaming this from the top of the mountain. I know two people in RL who cited their primary reason for quitting as "Too many Gold Sinks weaponized against Low Level players" which between armor repair and respec costs made them always feel taxed to death, insulted, unrewarded and upset.

Not to mention totally bankrupt. Bankrupt players are bored players. As for the elitist argument against newbies and less talented players, just because you don't like them doesn't mean you need to ruin it worse for them. They are a large part of the population and you already have a leg up on them, your have your big stashes of gold.

By L50 you are selling all those drops you previously deconstructed to level up crafting. There isn't a huge amount of outlay at that level so, while 10k may seem outrageous to you at L10, it is less than a days work to someone at L50...a lot less if they find and sell a vet zone motif. And if they drop a Vet purple recipe they can retire to the coast.
