Marriage in ESO?

After a failed suggestion, I have finally come up with another idea.

This time, marriage.

Now, the idea is not farfetched at all...back in Skyrim, we had the option to marry another NPC. In addition, another game I play, Rift, has also included marriage.

I think adding marriage into the mix will not only make it look a little bit more like Skyrim, it can also encourage more talk.

For instance, I know two players who initially met online in my Rift game who married in the game, then became Facebook friends, then actually married in real life.

Now, not saying that adding marriage will go that far, but maybe it could encourage more socialization and also encourage grouping up...trust me, the LFG needs a little bit more help.

Thoughts, concerns, questions, insults?

Rings of Mara for marriage are available through the Imperial Edition bonuses.

Yeah, but...not everyone wants to pay the Imperial Edition.

However, it does give me a thought...what if we add an effect that would occur each time the married people group up? Like maybe increased armor...or what?

Questions, concerns, insults? Thoughts? I want to hear your opinions.

And yes, my patcher still has not finished downloading the patch.

Rings of Mara give an EXP bonus to both partners when they are grouped together with rings equipped.

Yeah well, once you reach the VR ranks, then the Rings of Mara become ineffective, right?

Besides that obvious money-sink, is there another way to marry in-game?

My husband and I (who met as guildies in Age of Conan! LOL) have the rings of Mara and one pair of characters we play are married and we used the rings for them. I DO think it would be cute if they made a wedding ring that gave you an opportunity to perform a rite at one of the shrines for your wedding. Instead of it giving you a levelling bonus it could give you a temporary buff called "Honeymoon" where you are pretty much invincible for 1 game day. Anyone grouped with you gets half that buff and we'll call it "Celebrant." So, you marry, then immediately go dungeon crawling with the wedding party! After all, how the hell else should characters in ESO celebrate their marriage? LOL I think it would add a great bit of fun as well as be a boon to RPers.

Oh and let's have divorce as well... it happens automatically if either of you lets your sub lapse and you automatically lose half your gold. ;)

At VR, characters still accumulate EXP in order to level skills and skill lines.
In the future, Veteran Points are planned to be phased out entirely, with the leveling restored to just EXP gains.

Nope. Before 1.3, they helped you powerlevel your skills, and now that the update's live it helps you level veteran ranks.

That being said, I see zero reason to implement marriage in ESO, since it's already in in the form of Mara ceremonies. However, if they wanted to make Rings of Mara available through gameplay and not just from purchasing the Imperial Edition, I'd be completely okay with that. And I say this as somebody who preordered the Imperial Edition.

So if we're not playing with a partner and want the benefits without the hassle of , oh lets say...., courtship ;) , would there be a temple of Mara in each section where one would show up and and the Mara priest would just randomly choose a partner for whoever is around and declare it a union >:) .... Actually that may be fun .. well until you have to go to The Shrine of Stendarr and pay a ton to dissolve the match ;)

Just stand in front of the shrine to Mara and have a ceremony. Do you want tax benefits or something?

Ring of Mara is pretty much tying the knot. My husband left the game (saw him just yesterday tho) and good riddance, racist high elf that he was. I have yet to see an anniversary gift from him, probably because he is off chasing other male high elves.

Actually I'm hoping he starts playing again. Even if he does complain nonstop.

Maybe a skilline for the married couples that can only be leveled when playing together?

I know how they work. I have 3 in my inventory. Never used. All new and shiny.
I'm not going to use any of them.

My problem is that i can't trade them, sell them, guild bank them, guild store them, mail them or otherwise get them in the hands of someone who would actually use them.
    ;-)

could probably destroy them. Or at least destroy all but 1.

Again, i know that. For some strange reason, i'd like to be able to just give them to players that actually have a use for them.

I know, it's a odd thing to do in a MMO. I wonder what that second M in MMO stands for?

What of all the divorces that will inevitably ensue?

The last thing we need are crazy ex-spouses yelling for alimony or awkward couple fights in public. However, it would make for amusing zone chat.
