Weapon Analysis

Reasoning
I wanted to do a weapon analysis because I wanted a better understanding of the weapons and their base attacks and figured I would share the results so that others can see. Here it is, some of the things I have noticed and seen. Enjoy and please read wall of text before looking at stats and my opinions of each.

Where did I do it? What did I spec in?
Brand new level 3 Breton, no skill points in any tree and no points in any attributes. I did this test at the Strifeswarm Kwama Mine in Stonefalls on the Ebonheart Pact. I have screenshots that I will post showing my stat and attribute points at 0.
Granted I did it on Kwama all of which were the same creature with 75 hp the discrepancy in the damage of the weapons surprises me. Looking at just the base damage and ignoring the abilities there seems to be a huge issue.

Attention Grabber
I’m mainly looking at the two handed melee weapons. The item tooltip says that it deals the most damage. However, upon testing it actually deals less than the bow which says it deals 10. I will go into more advantages and disadvantages of the weapon setups below each of their stats.

Question... Why?
There seems to be some underlying issues…. Why does the bow do so much more damage than the two handed weapon? It says it deals less but it actually deals 3 more and has the advantage of range. Two hand has a passive for splash damage but is very week. Bow has more AE abilities than two hand thus two hand can’t be said to be made for AE specs. The two hand says that it deals the most damage of all weapons in the window tooltip but it doesn’t.

Its because of the type of monster.... or is it?
I have seen people argue that it is because certain mobs are more resistant to range but that is not the case, it is physical and non-physical. Physical damage deals less to targets with higher armor and magical deals less damage to those with higher spell resistance.

Physical vs Magical.... if this exists.
This is all going on the assumption that staves are actually magical damage as they should be and the bow and all other melee weapons are physical damage. There is not a tooltip that indicates an item to deal physical or non-physical damage.
Speed is one thing that I didn’t bring up but it is pretty apparent when playing with each of these that speed of the bow is not so much slower that it should be dealing more damage than the two handed weapons. I can visually tell that DW is the fastest and thus deals the least damage which is understandable, the sword alone deals less damage than the two hand but again it swings faster and that is understandable.

Attack speed very well may come into play.
Again I want to say that speed of weapon may affect the analysis but it would be interesting to get a add-on that you can see the speed of every attack, I’m sure one exists and may download and add the speed to the analysis.

Magical Damage (Staves)
The staves all have one thing in common, range and magical damage. They are thus separated from the physical damage abilities that are listed below.

Flame Staff – Base Damage 10

- Light = 12
- Heavy = 28

Advantages: Range, Fire damage.
Disadvantages: Fire damage.

The flame staff, straight damage and heavy attack is a straight damage ability.

Lightning Staff – Base Damage 10
- Light = 12
- Heavy = (5+5+5+7) = 22

Advantages: Range, Lightning damage.
Disadvantages: Lightning damage.

The Lightning Staff, heavy attack is a shock attack that deals 5, 5, 5, 7 damage.

Frost Staff – Base Damage 10

- Light = 12
- Heavy = 28

Advantages: Range, Frost Damage.
Disadvantages: Frost Damge.

The Frost Staff, heavy attack is a bolt that deals straight damage just like the Flame Staff.

Restoration Staff – Base Damage 10

- Light = 12
- Heavy = (7+7+7) = 21

Advantages: Range (healing capabilities in terms of skill line)
Disadvantages: Channel effect deals less damage than lightning staff, and is not as “bursty” as Frost and Flame.

The Restoration Staff, heavy attack is a channeled ability similar to frost but deals 7, 7, 7 damage.

Physical Damage A lot of interesting abilities and combinations among melee, one of the most surprising things is that the Two Hand deals less damage than bow and has the disadvantage of less range. Advantages and disadvantages of each weapon are listed comparative to the other physical weapons. When I say “no range” I’m talking comparative to the bow.

Bow – Base Damage 10

- Light = 13
- Heavy = 27

Advantages: Range, more damage than all other physical weapons.
Disadvantages: Slower than DW and One Hand, single item compared to two.

The bow, heavy attack is straight damage and this item has range, something no other physical damage weapon line has. Thus the advantage of the bow is range. However, it deals more damage than a Two Hand and has the advantage of range. Fun and high damage, contrary to popular belief I have seen people be killed and get killed extremely fast with the bow, the damage it does is very good in terms of heavy/light attacks comparative to other weapons and its speed.

Sword – Base Damage 10

- Light = 7
- Heavy = 18

Advantages: Fast, can be paired with shield for increased armor and stats and set bonus perks.
Disadvantages: Less base damage compared to two hand and bow, no range.

The Sword, damage is lower than tooltip says but is expected as it swings faster and can be paired with a shield giving additional stats and increased armor. Very fun to play, good damage and has a couple cool abilities.

Two Hand – Base Damage 12

- Light = 10
- Heavy = 26

Advantages: Increased damage compared to one hand and DW.
Disadvantages: Slower than DW and One Hand, no range.

Two Hand, damage is lower than tooltip says. It swings slower than the one hand and doesn’t have advantage of additional slot like One Hand or Dual Wield. It also doesn’t have increased range like the Bow. It does get some splash damage but 25% to 1 additional target amounts to little AOE. DW gets ability similar to cleave but hits more targets thus eliminating the rebuttal that two hand does less damage because it has more AOE damage.

Dual Wield – Base Damage 10 on each weapon

- Light = 6
- Heavy = (13+9) = 22

Advantages: Fastest of all, advantage of additional item for set bonus perks and stat purposes.
Disadvantages: Lowest of all in terms of base damage in light attacks. Less defense than one hand and shield and has no range.

Swings extremely fast, has the advantage of 2 weapons leading to more stats, more enchants, and additional item for set bonus purposes just like the shield. AOE is good with abilities just as the two hand but has extremely fast damage. I definitely recommend trying DW if you haven’t already.
