Catching Blue Rare Fish

Magnificat
I have over 800 casts in foul water in Grahtwood and haven't yet caught the blue rare fish, the Bilious Catfish. I have caught about 40 of the two green rares. Is this just incredibly odd probability--bad luck--or is the fishing bugged? Or is there a special foul water pool that is the only place to catch the blue rare?

Took me like 900 casts for the last blue lake fish in Craiglorn. I got every other rare a bajillion times, including the other blue. For a while I thought diddferent blues came from different lakes, but I kept catching the other blue no matter where I was. After a week and a half I finally got it.

Then I went to stormhaven and got all the rares in like an hour.

Not so lucky in stonefalls now, can't get the foul water blue to save my life. I did get 11 foul water greens in a row last night though... AARGH. used up 2 and a half stacks of crawlers.

Are you fishing alone? I believe the chance of rarity is increased, based on how many people are fishing simultaneously. The type of bait used, can also be a factor.

I caught a blue fish once...of course it disappeared due to fishing bugs so there is no way to retroactively get the achievement :(

Same here, caught several green and blue - none ever got into my bags :(

I know this might be an obvious question, but have you checked the type of bait you are using?

Yes, I know to use crawlers and fish roe in foul water. That rare fish don't show up in inventory is not a problem. I have now over 900 casts with no Bilious Catfish from Grahtwood. Is something wrong or is it supposed to take more casts to get a rare fish?

I wish I could help...I want to get my Master Angler achievement, but I am waiting until they fix the fishing system. There are a lot of things wrong with it...I want to bag my fish, I want every zone to have all types of water (some zones are missing certain types), and I want the fishing "loot" to be accurate for each zone...some of it still isn't.

There are a lot of bugs...

You're just subject to bad RNG. Increase your chances with people fishing at same spot. I got the blues in Grahtwood. It's just the last green lake fish that took me almost 450 tries until I got it.

Has anyone actually caught a Bilious Catfish in Grahtwood? Zero out of 900 casts with at least 40 greens caught makes me suspicious of a bug.

I have to call Shenanigans on this one -- I caught 3 of the blue fish in Bleakrock once and none gave me the Acheivement and never got the fish either. This was like couple weeks only after launch though

A different problem I came across when fishing with a friend...

I just caught a fish and it was blue, and I was happy and was gazing upon it for a couple of seconds without acctually clicking the take loot button yet, At that time my friend looted the last fish from that pool removing the fishing pool...wich in that turn cancelled my caught fish somehow (you could say, the loot bag dissapeared). I didn't get the achievement for that fish!!.... grrrrrr

So I'm gna wait a bit before trying to fish again...

I didn't get the achievement for Bleakrock blue either, but maybe it's been fixed since then?

I caught a blue one in Bal Thoyen, then realised it doesn't count as it isn't in the right zone

Keep Trying. Just got it recently. The one that is giving me problem is preposterous mackrel in reaper's. Spending 700 guts IS preposterous

I'm having the same exact problem in Grahtwood. I've been fishing the foul water for almost 4 days and still haven't caught the blue. It's the only one I need to finish the area.

    Ah that dreaded RNG
The fish is there, got the Auridon angler achievement to prove it.
Its just ... RNG, you know the thing that somehow knows what you are looking for and rolls the dice in this particular way so you DO NOT get it, ... like ever, ... that RNG.

I think they should have the bait that you catch by fishing have a higher chance of catching the rare fish. Otherwise they're just pointless

All I need is to get the Aldmeri and cyrodil finished and I have master angler. But Grahtwood is seriously making that a problem

It is just RNG. Agree, the caught bait is mostly waste of bag space, but it's free and works. Other than improving odds fishing with a group, all you can do is keep casting. I suggest you take a break from Grahtwood, give your RNG a chance to spin positive. Probably nothing to this, but I seemed to spend less total time before catching a fish or getting a trophy drop if I did it in spurts rather than grinding non-stop and not getting a drop.

This is the outcome of RNG with no bad luck provisions because RNG as currently used makes every cast completely separate from the one before. Game developers don't need to hand everything out just because you put in the minimal effort but they certainly can help balance out that RNG can be wasteful of the players' time. Respect your players time. Its a simple request that doesn't drive players away from your game but not doing so certainly can.
