Does anyone else agree about abilities being altered to uniquely? (NeRfed) Buff instead or Nerf

So recently I started playing the game again. I see that a lot of skill trees are TOO specific. They used to allow cross mixing for mix and match. Which was the coolest thing ever in the game. NOW due to "pro" players suggesting to make the game last way longer (ex experience is way to hard to get.) They now have removed them for 'balancing' purposes. Which in Quake they retracted the idea of making the game harder because they will lose their audience.

The main point would be would you think they should undo some of the trees to allow for more freedom? Will they plan on making more trees to create more freedom to allow more mixing of the classes so you can have a mage-knight with astromechs. Or a assassin mage like they had in the beginning? (Kinda)

What I mean is say in one tree it only applies to the abilities in that tree. Which In my opinion is part of the game to be allowed to mix and match. If you are allowed to use all your skills on the passives, you may have a strong buffed character but not necessarily a effective one.
