Can we please have a preview option?

It's always seemed very strange to me that we don't have a real gear preview option. In the crafting menu we only have the small icons, which really doesn't help at all (especially after the craglorn patch color changes). The last set of armor I made looked completely ridiculous with color and style, simply because I used different motifs. It is way too expensive to make multiple items just to see what they look like.

I'm aware that the dye system might alleviate some of this, but only for items you already have/made. Plus, you still have to waste bind on equip items. It would be nice not to have to resort to external websites (which don't always have everything).

This system is present in pretty much all the MMO's I've played. Is this something we can have in ESO? Thoughts?

I agree. I find myself making dummy gear just to see what it actually looks like.

Not really the best use of my mats ...

If they would make the Preview Icon we do get now larger, then we could see more what it looks like when making the gear. However, even then, I have not been happy with what I have tried with different motifs.

Fortunately, I have found that Argonian looks the best on female characters so that is what I use on them. I have not found the universal look I like for male characters yet.

Yeah ESO fashion has definitely helped some. But, it really would be much better to have a game option so you can experiment with your own character. In LOTRO if you hit Ctrl-right click on any item, a window pops up with your character and is wearing whatever you clicked on. This is also the case in Rift. I hope something, even close to this, can be implemented soon. I've wasted way too many mats at this point. And, as obsessive as it sounds, I just can't keep running around with these ridiculous mis matched armor combos lol

This is definitely on the list of "Things we should even have to bother asking for." It's straight-up insane that it wasn't in the game at release.

This would definitely be a nice thing to add. I was kind of surprised that it wasn't in the game to begin with to be honest. I hope they are planning on adding it in the future.

Agreed. I've never bothered making gear in any motif other than my native one specifically because I have no idea ahead of time what it will look like. It's just a crap shoot that I don't want to waste mats on.

You can sell the 'dummy' item once you have crafted it and that pays better than the raw material (for a chest piece at any rate), so yes it is more often than not the best use of your mats. I always have far more crafting materials than I need, so I craft and then sell the armour/weapons to the NPC anyway.

I actually like crafting different styles to find the one I like best - normally Redguard - it adds a sense of doing to my skills. I find nothing worse than one-click systems in a game; it is a bad representation of a series of actions.

I feel this will most likely be added at some point. I actually found myself trying to find what keyboard+mouse click combination brought up the preview window when I first started playing because I kind of assumed it would be an option. ESO Fashion does help but it was very difficult with LA because I wanted to rock a jerkin and pants and most of the images there have the robes so I ended up going through about three different pants/boots combinations before I found one I liked. Luckily it seems pretty easy to acquire mats so unless you don't like the color that the gear becomes when you improve it, it's actually not too bad to just try different combinations.
On second thought, let's not go to the forums. 'Tis a silly place.

What to preview there?! Game has like handful of motifs, all looking similar. You get like 14 types of arms/armor looks and their different color styles for different craft-grades.

I've wasted way too many mats at this point.

Yep, nothing worse than wasting Mats. Last night I made a piece of gear for my character, with a trait, improved it to Blue, enchanted it and then realized I made it for the wrong level (she is L44, the armor I made was L36 grrrr)

But, one thing you can do, besides getting a crafting minion to bring you mats, is to make say the pants and shirt with no traits or anything at the lower or lowest level and you can get a general idea of what that armor line will look like. I mentioned Argonian and it loots similar no matter what material I make it out of. So, you could try this with Jute or Rawhide or Steel and get an idea of what your higher end stuff will resemble. It is a good way to use up excess low level mats too.

Also, the Extraction skills are key to getting mats from deconstructing. I am at level 3 on most of my crafters and I get back about 60% to 80% of what it takes to makes something. I also get 8 to 10 refined mats per 10 raw materials, plus tempers and trait gems with Extraction. Even after taking Extraction to Level 2, I stopped farming mats and used Deconstruction to gather the materials I need to craft. Well, that and my Minions.

Note you extract less from what you make, so trade these items with another crafter so you both get the most from the extraction, including experience in the skill line.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Um, are you kidding? Each motif looks significantly different from the others, and in most cases each material level looks significantly different from the others. When you're crafting yourself a new set because you've hit a new level (maybe now you're high enough level to wear ebonthread, so you want a new set of gear) it would be nice to be able to see which items you like the look of at that level before you craft it.

thanks, hope it happens. I keep making gear for my alts and then having to remake it because... well one, that ugly green color low level cloth is, but also because even with eso fashion, sorting out what the individual pieces at varying levels look like is tough. (sometimes things look stellar on eso fashion but atrocious in game) I understand the low level gear being less impressive, at low levels I find that only the dunmer or the rare motifs (not including imperial, it too is ugly,) looks any good.

This is one of those things that makes me wonder if anyone over there at ZOS has played a MMO before. I mean, a preview is something that nearly all MMOs have and for good reason. GW2's is especially good IMHO. Frankly, I think this is the sort of thing that should have already been planned for at the start but was not deemed sufficiently necessary right after launch but would get implemented later; not something that has to be responded to like "have passed the suggestion to our design team" because of some reddit thread. But hey! I am pleased we will get one! Keep up the good work ZOS!

That's great, thanks for the response! Like those above, I agree that it's very strange something like this wasn't implemented from the start. But, I'm just happy to hear it is something that is being discussed by the devs. I think this is a feature that many would like to see, and some are indifferent towards. Either way, doesn't affect anyone negatively so I really hope it makes it into the game soon.

Yeah, I know I did a /feedback on this topic back in beta and I did so on more than one occasion I am sure of it. It is really too bad that it takes a reddit thread to get the ball moving and not the /feedback. Of what use is that in-game feedback tool then?

So, what you're saying is that we can complain here on the forums for months and nobody cares but if one person asks during a (enter your favorite social media name here) session, you go straight to the design/dev team to present this great "new" idea.
