average price for wares

okay I had someone who wanted to commission a full set of heavy and a 2 handed sword from me today. I actually had all the right traits etc, and if he had had what I was asking for it, I would have had a sale.

I had to guess as to what to charge for it, though.

Is there a regularly updated site that has the average going price of various goods including crafted items?

It's hard to keep track of all that and I don't spend much time in rawl'kha to see what prices are at.

Your best bet would be to ask in zone chat. I don't think there is anything reliable enough to be current as prices fluctuate. I keep a log of prices in a little book on my desk.

The way I see it, if someone gives me the mats, racial stones, trait gems and tempers, I will make them something if they just ask me nicely. Heck, I don't even need the Racial Stones all the time, I got plenty of them.

Now, if I have to supply the mats and more importantly, the Tempers, then each vanilla item is going to cost about 20% less than street vendor price, 20% more than vanilla street if it is traited, and 20% more for each Temper level than the items that are sold by the existing in game vendors. I may not be the cheapest at this, but I am not playing this game to farm mats for other people.

I'd recommend you do the following:

Join a couple of trade guilds, then download 'guild store search extended' add-on.
    Then do a blank search.
After doing this it should show the price that various goods have sold for.

Between that and keeping an eye on zonechat for prices, you will have a good idea of what to sell for.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I am in two trade guilds and have that add on.

My problem arises when someone says they want armor of such and such crafted set piece in whatever style. This is generally not sold via the guild store. I also don't know how much to charge for each improvement I make.

    Totally understand your predicament.

I suppose just trial and error, and also stating your price up front and sticking to it is the best way forward.

Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer. :)

Rather then using 'guild store search extended' I recommend using Shopkeeper. Shopkeeper is based on actual sales of mats, not what people are asking for them which is usually way higher then what people would pay.

But it might be easier to just watch for how much people buy stuff in bulk. And generally the tempers is what costs most money. Write those down, then multiply them out on a per item. That will give you your cost. Round up if unsure. For the most part these prices have been fairly stable. Maybe recheck some of them on a monthly basis.

Once you know your cost, you know to never sell below that. From there, you can figure out how much to mark it up to pay for your time.

hmm I always start high with the expectation of being haggled down.

I don't need to know the cost of mats, I have plenty of reference for that. I need to know the cost of things I want to sell that I have crafted.

Until you know the market, that is a good strategy. Once you know the market, then you can set a fair but firm price stick to it.

shame, I enjoy the haggling part, not to mention some people don't realize you are haggling and just take the high price. then again others don't realize you are haggling and just say no outright without giving you a counter offer.

Haggling can be fun, but usually I am too busy doing something else to spend the time on it.

Speaking of that, I have a bunch of Racial Motif books that I need to get rid of, wonder what the common ones sell for? I Basically have 1 to 9, some with multiple copies.

300-600 I believe, I just dump them in a guild bank for others, it's not worth the trouble of selling them imo

I don't need to know the cost of mats, I have plenty of reference for that. I need to know the cost of things I want to sell that I have crafted.

First you need to figure out your cost, hence why you need to know the cost of mats. So say it cost you 2k gold in mats to make some armor. Even if you already had the mats, 2k is the cost. Never sell below 2k because that is your cost. Everything above 2k is pure profit. So now, you just figure out how much to upcharge. That's where you have flex. You might charge a straight 3k per item, but you could also haggle. If you're making an 8 trait set, you might charge a bit more.

There are many variables to consider when selling crafted armor and weapons. Here is how I charge for every set of armor that I craft.

Per ingot (depends on ingot type and level)
Per style stone (NPC's sell these for 15 gold each, except for the "rare" ones)
Per trait gem (I charge more for some than others)
Per temper (Legendary will cost you a heck of a lot more than fine quality)
Custom Set (Death's Wind, Hist Bark, etc..) (You can charge a premium for this option based on how many traits the set requires)

So, if someone orders an Epic or Legendary 8-trait custom set, the costs can get quite high.
