Hey all. Super stoked to be a member of this community. A little history before I start. I started with Morrowind(actually built my first rig for that game) and built another rig for Oblivion. I am a huge fan of the franchise. My MMO playing days started with SWG. Loved that game. Went to Guild Wars 1 from there and then to other games like Pirates of the Burning Sea, LOTRO, SW:ToR, Neverwinter etc.
I haven't played much yet. I am giving it time to get going. I wanted to drop some honest and objective feedback. Please feel free to let me know if the things I am criticizing change later on. That kind of thing could actually get me to stick around longer, but I do plan on playing at least to level 30 to see if this game is for me, and level 30 on a few classes at that. I want to give this game a real chance.
The game world feels like Tamriel. That is probably the highest compliment I could give the game. The devs did a great job designing the world and making it feel like an ES game through and through as far as the world design goes. I love it. The armor and characters are pretty good too as well as the character creation. Top notch. I like the world sounds and music as well. It's great.
My criticisms so far would be that crafting stations could be placed closer to banks for certain factions. Some of the icons aren't displayed prominently enough in maps for starter towns. I am sure I would even take it for granted in a month or two, but so many other games offer convenient crafting stations in towns. Stros M'Kai is the exception for sure. That is the way all of them should be.
I am sure combat will feel better later, but for now it feels like there is less gravity on Tamriel than on Earth. I guess floaty would describe it? It's hard to describe, but a lot of the attacks don't feel meaty enough. When you block an attack in an ES game it feels like it has weight if that makes sense? I know it's an MMO, but there are other MMOs out there that have done a better job in that department. I am sure when I start getting access to higher end skills that will change.
I was really bummed that the world wasn't full open world like LOTRO. Let's face it, in the Elder Scrolls universe, Tamriel is the star. Running around the open world portions of those games with no load screens is amazing. To have it be zoned like GW2 or SW:ToR is a bummer. It takes a lot of the flavor of Tamriel out of the equation.
So far I like the quest structure for the most part, but there is way too much running around between NPCs and not enough action. I really want to get to the day where MMO devs take off the training wheels for games and let us just play, or have two starting zones: 1 for MMO vets and one for new players to MMOs. It's tiresome having to wade through 30 hours of training wheels in starter zones in MMOs. Do it like Dark Souls and throw us to the wolves.
Thanks for your time and thanks for the game!
