Templar Class | Very Disappointing

Soul Shriven
I have played a fair amount with every class in Elder Scrolls Online and Templar seems to be the most disappointing to me. No matter what build I use I tend to die in not only PVE, but PVP and have many thoughts of what I would like to be changed.

1. More self-healing abilities!

Please correct me if I am wrong but what I have observed is that almost every healing ability is healing just for wounded allies and only one where it heals you but just heals you for an additional percentage. I understand that it is good to heal your friends and other players that are accompanying you, though I do not tend to understand why nearly every single ability in that section of the skill line has to be for allies. Basically, I am saying that it would be more helpful for the Templars if they could have some abilities to heal themselves at a fair amount, not just the allies.

2. Better ultimate abilities!

I have tried out every ultimate ability(three main skill lines) and none of them seemed to be as powerful as the other classes in PVP or in veteran zones. The ultimate barely does any damage now which makes me not even want to use the ultimate anymore, unlike when I first started as a Templar.

Doesn't seem to do much use but tell me if it brings any more benefit that I forgot to mention. And then of course the other ultimate abilities that typically heal your allies and barely any self-benefit. Anyways those are my two main concerns for the Templar class and I do see good in the class but there are many rough edges that I think ought to be sanded off. Please do correct me if I have explained something wrong. If you do have any other concerns about this class I would love to hear them!

In my opinion Templar is one of the hardest to kill.

You do know that every single healing ability that says it heals allies will also work on you, right? If it's an ability that heals allies within a radius, and you're within that radius you will be healed. If it's an ability that specifies that it heals X number of allies, it will look for the friendly characters within range, and heal up to X of them, starting with the one who is most hurt (so if it heals 2 allies, and you're one of the 2 most hurt allies within range it will heal you).

As @Ur-Quan said, your statement is just not true.

Yes, the tooltips imply the skills only heal allies (one or two I think mention the caster as well but many don't) but simply using one of them when you're injured demonstrates it heals you as well.

I wonder how much time you've played a Templar if you haven't discovered this obvious feature.

The Templar "Restoring Light" tree is geared towards group healing rather than self healing. I specifically love Extended Ritual (Cleaning Ritual morph) as it works well both in groups as well as solo PvE. Basically it lays down a huge AoE healing rings that tics for like 17 secs or something like that. When you add in Immovable (heavy armor stamina buff, though I only wear two pieces of heavy the rest light) it gives you some good survivability.

As far as DPS, I love Reflective Light (Sun Fire morph), followed by Explosive Charge (Focus Charge morph), with Bitting Jabs (Puncturing Strikes morph). Downs any basic mob is 2 - 3 secs.

You're going to want to pick up Equilibrium from the Mage tree line to help with Magika Regen as well as the Mage Adept 2/2 passive.

You can also play around with things like Spear Shards (AoE) and Backlash.

Not as powerful as my sorc, but beats my NB easy. Hardest thing with Templar's is managing you Magika though... Aside from Equilibrium and atleast 5 pieces of light armor, you're going to want to have plenty of food buffs for magika.

It's really hard for me to kill a good templar+ sun shield, expecially sun shield , archers templars.
+ Here is a video of a Dk in an organized duel tournament and final fight is vs a good templar:

I have played a fair amount with every class in Elder Scrolls Online and Templar seems to be the most disappointing to me.

All Templar healing heals you first and then your allies. Tell me one ability that doesn't do so....

    Ultimates.
Nova (Dawn Wrath) and Sweep (Aedric Spear) are absolutely fantastic depending your build and situations.

Of course they are more costly and do less damage overall than the Dragonknight abilities, however it is how it is and live with it.

FYI I have a Khajiit Templar as my main, and is doing pretty well both as Tank and pure DPS caster.

I've played as a Templar from beta and find I'm pretty freakin hard to put down. That said it can take a while to deal the same damage as others so it's more about out lasting and trying to keep my mana up.

I'm still stuck in the mind set that my Templar.... Is a Templar.
I'm sword and board, heavy armor. Melee and heal, you know a Templar.

I know that just like EVERY OTHER CLASS I should be a skirt wearing stick waver, but I refuse to do so....

.. And that play your way thing only works if nobody cares about min maxing, if they just leveled the field( everyone does same damage, different animations for attacks, but same damage. Same heal power, same everything. ) Then passives would matter more and there wouldn't be the mess there is now. The only thing that would matter in the long run is skill, and we all know that as long as this system is in place ( never ending buffs and nerfs) skill is not needed, just enough whining in the forums until you are the flavor of the month with some people yelling for you to get nerfed .

But at this point, it's too late and nothing will ever be balanced.

Of course it's not perfect, but I think the Templar's a wonderful class.
Self Healing: That's been dealt with in the above posts. I'm surprised you haven't realised that was the case though (re where others have corrected you), especially if you've got a VR Templar.
Ultimate Abilities: Sure, they're not the best, but they're hardly worthless.

The great thing is there are other classes you like to play: So play them, and don't worry about the Templar class.
