Vet Dungeons

I like some of the changes ESO has made to the solo Vet Ranks. I am having much more fun just exploring. I know they have some plans to improve it more and I look forward to more information. I am having problems with the Vet Dungeons - I am around vet rank 4 and I have joined up with others and tried to take on 5 Vet Dungeons with no luck (EPIC FAIL). Are we just to low in the vet ranks to take on a vet dungeon? Again we are getting trashed by trash mobs. I like a good hard dungeon but in most cases we are getting whooped before the 1/2 way point. I do think there is a problem in tanking in this game - I feel for you tanks trying to keep control!

Sadly, this is what it has come to. I do not fault the OP, or his group mates, for having difficulty in these dungeons. I fault ZOS for continuing to make the game more and more single-player. Without the incentive to actually do group content (or now, even the group content to do), most folks are just not prepared to handle ESO's particular spin on VR Dungeon content.

What I expect to happen is that the VR Dungeons are going to be nerfed down to the same level of difficulty as normal dungeons. As part of the overall destruction of the initial VR design.

This will be ok with most of the folks playing ESO. It seems to be the way that ZOS wants to move the game.

Vet dungeons are fine...

It just takes some skill and a functioning team.

Easy things like focusing a healer can make a difference etc..

Also you should have at least one player with a good AoE setup (preferably 3 and mob grps should be no problem)

In most dungeons not even a dedicated tank is needed. (Crypt of Hearts)


They do seem difficult at start but if you learn the mechanics you shouldn't have a problem. Even with 4 VR1s.

I wish I could give you some advice but I still haven't done a single vet dungeon or trial. I have finished every other dungeon and delve in the game but can't find a group for vet/trial.

Everything Wizz says above is 100% accurate. The problem is that the vast majority of players are now hitting the VR dungeons without a clue on how to do those things.

I know that when I do dungeons I still have to tell players to focus down the healers first, and that they are the ones with the shiny glow at the end of their staff!

Most also do not understand that Tanks in ESO are simply not able to hold all the mobs, and that the team will have to focus down the ones not on the Tank BEFORE banging on the Boss.

Or that their healers are basically restricted to AoE, and if the player goes off on his own, not going to get any heals.

Or any of another boat-load of tactical requirements. Like BLOCK Heavy Attacks! Dodge Roll out of the RED!

They just don't know how to play in that type of environment, yet.

They are missing a lot of the dungeons but you get my idea. Before entering read up on tactics etc. and you can function as group leader.

This is a question to those who have done vet dungeons:

As a dungeon junkie, I run my level dungeons so many times that I am usually well over-leveled before I leave a given map... For example, I have run City of Ash, Crypt of Hearts, and Arx Corinium so many times that I can literally take most noob groups through them with zero wipes and sometimes zero deaths... I know every mechanic inside and out...

So, the question, at vet level its not that there are new or insane "mechanics" to deal with but just players like SoulScream (poster above) who just don't know what they are doing as they haven't done enough group content??

I think the mechanics of the dungeons I've done so far are pretty fun... Some are too easy (like Crypt of Hearts) but others can be challenging. I do not like dungeons though that have super tight mechanics where everyone has to basically do "research" and play like robots or wipe. Just curious where vet dungeons fall on that spectrum.


To the other players here who might be having a hard time with some dungeons:

As others have said, be sure to always kill enemy healers first, followed by any ADDs. Be sure to roll away from AOE damage and be aware that most healing spells in ESO are AOE... meaning you need to know where your healer is and you need to stay close or the heals wont hit you.

Also, tanks need to make sure to be in the habit of facing bosses AWAY from the group and the group needs to be in the habit of staying behind any bosses.

This might seem simple to some of us MMO'ers, but for some people its new info.

So far I think vet dungeons are fine on the difficulty. Yet still they might be just easy for some people. For others it is the so wanted difficulty.

Did Vet Banished Cells couple days ago... with our group of vr1, vr2, vr3 and vr12, we spend nice 2 hours there dying and learning until we finished the whole thing.

2hrs? jeeze... I mean, sounds fun but my experience has been that too many pugs are going to give up way before that...

too hard, haven't been able to finish any VR dungs. not the lower ones when i was VR 6 and not the higher onesnow that i am VR 12. no matter what group ive had with always atleast one healer with group and rest 2 dps one tank or 3 dps.

It's all about taking the time to try different things and learn the mechanics. Also, different fights are going to be easier using different skills in your bar. The emphasis on tactics for your skillbar loadout is where ESO differs from some other MMO's that people are used to.

VR dungeons are fine.

Time flies when you are having fun Apparently all were determined to complete it. All, way or another knew someone in the group so maybe that's why nobody quit. And we did some progress all the way so it was not like 2 hours stuck in one spot.

My experience last night tanking my 2nd Vet dungeon. Had tons of fun with wife and other two guildies doing Vet Elden Hollow. My disclaimer (or excuse, I don't know what you would prefer) is that me and the wife both recently hit V12 and are keeping our blue V9 gear until 1.3 so we don't waste any crafting mats and had read up on none of this dungeon.

That being said, we went in there and were having a blast. No wipes, clearing it fairly well and enjoying talking with each other. Then came the big guy at the end (Bogdan the Nightflame). To begin, we were all admiring the setting before you approached the boss. I saw a scroll on a table and figured "well, I MUST read this, who knows what it may tell us!". Only now do I know what a terrible mistake I made

We did not down the boss, it got late and we wiped a lot (frustrated wife didn't help) and called it. But the moral is that we had a blast regardless. It was a ton of fun and has me wanting to do more. Me and the wife mostly grouped through content together and didn't run dungeons and now we have something else to do with the guild that doesn't involve questing!

Just wanted to throw my two cents in there and say that even though we didn't complete it we had a blast running it and now I have a boss on my poo-poo list (for lack of a better term) and he must die by my (and three other people's) hand!!
