Feedback and Pet idea

When players log in to play ESO they get a system message.

"Thank you for playing ESO. We have decided rather than taking our direction from an extremely vocal minority who comes to the game boards to rant, we will be giving weekly surveys. If you do this brief survey, you will get a (pet) which has the duration of one week."

Your options are a) opt out or b) do survey and get pet.

The next week, when the players log in they get a system message.

""Thank you for playing ESO. We have decided rather than taking our direction from an extremely vocal minority who comes to the game boards to rant, we will be giving weekly surveys. Do this survey or the (pet) dies."

Your options are a) opt out and feel shame for killing off your pet or b) do survey and get one more week of life on to your pet.

The technology for this is extremely simple.

I believe the only reason game companies don't do this is a) apathy and b) laziness.

Heck, if I were the company I would do it even if the results went into the garbage can because then I can say things like

"We'd like to address your issue, but our weekly surveys show that the majority of our customers feel we should be working on this other issue now, but rest assured - it is on the list."

"We care what our customers think - that's why we give them a weekly survey!"

I'd be very positive about receiving periodic surveys as in-game mail or notifications. The emotional blackmail you suggest would be a nice touch. ;)

Not a terrible idea. But a lot of people would still complain cause their special circumstance where they couldn't do survey and pet dies.. or something similar I imagine.
There is only one god and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: “Not today...”

"We read fantasy to find the colors again, I think. To taste strong spices and hear the songs the sirens sang. There is something old and true in fantasy that speaks to something deep within us, to the child who dreamt that one day he would hunt the forests of the night, and feast beneath the hollow hills, and find a love to last forever somewhere south of Oz and north of Shangri-La."

If I didn't do the survey couldn't my pet just run away from home? Why do I have to give into blackmail just to feed my pet? I wouldn't be in a very forgiving mood to take their benighted survey then.

Lol I kind of like the idea conceptually, but without the pet business. Maybe have some account-wide point system where extra activities, such as a weekly / monthly survey, can earn you points which can be saved and redeemed for permanent pets / vanity items / maybe even game time when you have a ton.

Also, no in-game prompts. Keep it on the launcher or login screen.

    I concur.

Guys, the pet idea was humor. Humor. Maybe not good humor but I'm not sure if the ESO boards really warrant the 'A game'.

Anyway, yes, the surveys don't have to be weekly - they can be whenever they want. I've seen a couple game companies do some but they were sporadic and honestly, not very well put together.

Why? I don't know. I suspect the other two reasons I mentioned plus hubris.

I knew it was humor. I just didn't know where the humor ended and a serious idea began. But hey, I got a good laugh out of it. :D
