Hirelings account wide?

I created a new character last night, who is getting the e-mails and resources of my hireling from my other character on the account.

This seems to kind of defeat the purpose of taking the skill on my current character if I'm getting the resources without the investment, no?

I get this also but only if I've read the mail on my character with the hireling skill. So for instance my Templar has 3/3 on enchanting & clothing hireling. If I don't log onto him & open my mailbox, then my other characters can't see this mail. If I open my mailbox with him then log onto an alt they will then have the mail. Is this the same as you or are you logging onto a different character & actually receiving the mail ?

You get the mail if you log on with that character. You don't have to open the mail or look in your mailbox. Once you have received the mail, you can open it with any character. So to get the hireling goods you have to log on with each character each day.

I think it is fine, because otherwise I would just put it in the bank.

Well that's an interesting point that I hadn't thought of. I've only seen 2 e-mails, but I'm pretty sure I actually received a new one tonight when I logged on. Could be mistaken.

But even so, it still seems to defeat the purpose if all I'd have to do is log onto my character with the skills, open the e-mails, then log on to the new character and take all the resources.

All mail is account wide. This is actually helpful if you do a lot of crafting because you can have the hirelings on multiple characters, but only open the mail on the alt/mule that stores those mats...

amm7, if they changed the system, all you would have to do is park your alt in a bank and just move the items there. Then you get even more people crowding the banks than at present.
If I'm not using my alt much, I usually just log on, grab a couple of nearby resource nodes and look at some chest spots, and then pop into a bank anyway.

This is where it comes in useful for me, I've now had to use two characters as mules due to my excessive looting. I'm not sure why I do it as I very rarely craft anything but like them there for if someone wants to trade crafting gear with me to gain levels as crafting itself doesn't offer much IP. I just log on my main receive the mail then wait till I've finished playing log onto mules & take the mats to store for a later date.

But I guess the thing is, I haven't had to log in the character that has the perks. I haven't logged him in. I'm just getting the mails on my new character.

And I guess I feel it defeats the purpose of putting points into the hireling skills on this character, when I can just create other characters on the account with the skill to funnel the materials to my character without it.

I understand what you're saying there but players would just take the longer route by logging onto hireling toon, taking mats, putting them in bank & withdrawing with mule toon. Maybe I'm biased as I use this system to my advantage.

No, because if you have hirelings on both characters, then you get twice the mail.

You can have multiple characters with high level hirelings to generate a ton of materials for you.

The whole mule thing is a joke.

Then doesn't that damage the in game economy by lessening the demand for supplies?

idk, I'm with @SFBryan18‌ I don't like the mule concept, or account wide banks / inventories.

You need to log on to your alt to generate the mail, so most of us collect the mail with the alt it's intended for. It's a drawback of shared mail, but not a huge one.

Ps. It's also pointless to point out this snafu when we can just put the mats in the bank, and use them as a shared resource for all our alts anyway.
