ZOS - you have backed yourself into a corner - Loyalty Program is the answer

txfeinbergsub17_ESO
The whole puppy-gate fiasco and ZOS caving to the excessive outrage that occurred on these forums (whether warranted or not is being discussed in another forum thread) has created a problem. ZoS can not ever offer any incentives or perks to get more people to join without also feeling they have to give them to existing customers now.

Solution: (and I am sure this will only appeal to the more sensible of the rabid fan-base) would be a loyalty program. A lot of MMOs have it i.e. once you have subscribed for X amount of time you get a free pet, mount, trinket, dye etc. FFXIV was actually very generous with theirs, giving stuff once a month. I would rather have something a little less regular, perhaps once every 3 months - but have the gift be more meaningful (pets and mounts for example).

Yes. They could give us more crap to fill our bags with.

  • txfeinbergsub17_ESO
Good point. I guess they need to implement a better storage system for mounts and pets before they did this. FFXIV also had separate storage areas for those things.

Also... I still can't grasp how much outrage there was over a vanity pet.

Where exactly did they cave? getting tired of people spreading misinformation.

You people need to stop beating a dead horse, like yesterday. They didn't back themselves into a corner, a few temper tantrums on the forums do not equate to being backed into a corner. You people continue to act like this is the first time an mmo has done this or steam for that matter when it's not the case.

Loyalty rewards are a good idea. Rewards for being subbed on a particular date are nice. Rewards for being subbed a certain amount of days are nice, too, as long as the offer stays open perpetually so everyone can get them as long as they stay subbed for long enough.

As to "puppy-gate," I've said in another thread that ZOS could have avoided a lot of brouhaha by making the Steam pet a Kwama Scrib or something else that would be as unwanted as a mudcrab. (Not all brouhaha, mind you. Somewhere out there. somebody is pining for a Kwama Scrib pet.)

for EQ it was yearly, but it was a long time before it even existed.

They had a /claim command where all that stuff went, (yearly rewards were actually abilities, like being able to summon a banker once a day,) so it didn't sit in your mailbox or take up inventory space (unless you claimed it.)

It doesn't seem like the game is old enough for loyalty rewards tho.

In my opinion the best thing ZO could do is stick to their design philosophy. Keeping the promises which were made pre release is worth more than any puppy, wolf or pig.

If ZO has a issue then that they cave in too often, they should stick to their ideas and implement them, this is how they can win loyal customers.

Listening too much to forum crowds can backfire badly, as we saw with the dog - people just assume they can demand everything and this is dangerous for a company. The company must design the game, not the gamer because the gamer will go, but the company will still have the game with all its costs.

Forget the pets. I want a pogo-stick and bunny armor. LOL
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

Not sure where you been but its one of the many things they do to screw over there customers more and more people quit every day so yeah they are doing stuff wrong

i'd be happy with vanity rewards for loyalty - dyes, titles, perhaps even little motifs we can display similar to the PvP ranking we see next to people's names.

tbh the last thing I need is more pets and trophies that I have no room to store.

A loyalty program has been suggested multiple times over the past week, of which I'm a fan of. Not that I'm necessarily interested in the random vanity from a loyalty program, but it's an easy win for ZOS as it's been hugely successful for all games that employ it. ZOS could use any bit of pure positivity they could muster.

And that has what to do with anything I said? oh do show me where ZoS said you were entitled to every minipet and promotion past, present and future?

I'm a fan of loyalty rewards--really looked forward to my annual rewards in UO, most of which were useful. I'd love to see something similar in ESO with a shorter interval (really like the quarterly idea tho every six months would be fine).

Wrong. The brown dog was already in the files and was already going to be in game at a later date, people just assume they're doing it because of the whining. They're not. There's quite a few minipets in the files that they aren't utilizing.

Oh, I completely agree with you. I am only suggesting this because of the outrage that ensued over puppy-gate. That said, if a loyalty program addresses the problem, and encourages people to remain subbed longer, then go for it. If you don't like the word "loyalty" then call it an "anniversary" program, or some other name.

Here is a Revolutionary Game Idea............Why not just play the game and have some Fun? The Reward for playing a game should be Fun and Enjoyment. Instead some of you are wanting the Developers of Games to Reward you for playing their game with Materialistic items, rather than the game itself.
