Imperial City PvP dungeon

I was at QuakeCon, and wanted to pass along how awesome the Imperial City pvp dungeon looks. The elite monsters were incredible, and the new armor type (Imperial Daedric) looks awesome - that armor was my son's favorite thing they showed at QCon. But best of all is the dungeon itself which IMO will add huge interest to PvP. Anyone who played DAoC remembers how fun Darkness Falls was, and how even PvE players would pitch in to take PvP keeps so that they could have a DF raid. Mark my words, the Imperial City will be a quantum shift in PvP interest in this game, it will open PvP to an entirely new audience.

Did they show to the audience some gameplay footage different from the one that they showed in the ESO panel?

no, as far as I know, the online audience via the stream and website summaries saw the same thing that the QCon audience saw... except we saw it on a 15 foot screen, and my son and I were only about 20 feet away. The 'look' of the city itself was so similar to Oblivion it was like I had already been there.

Anyway, this will be a huge step forward for PvP. just like Darkness Falls was for DAoC. People forget that in the first couple years of DAoC, there were a lot of casual players who mainly did PvE. It was only several years in that the 8v8 hardcore pvp groups began to dominate (mainly because many casual players left after ToA and truth be told, even before that). Anyway, DF was a huge draw for the casual and PvE types to come into a PvP area, and greatly increased interest in the realm's PvP, because if you don't have a majority of keeps, your realm cant get into the pvp dungeon... and I fully expect that some of the best loot will be in that dungeon, not to mention crafting of the imperial city item sets.

Have they mentioned the reqs for factions to gain control of IC?

control the most keeps in cyrodiil. That's what did it in DAoC and the bullet point said keep control so it seems the same here. The thing is, once your alliance gets control, people flood in, which naturally means that the other sides can take back Cyrodiil keeps more easily and take control of the IC for themselves. Which makes for some fun PvP within the IC when the new alliance floods in. The thing is, if your alliance controls sections of the IC, it will allow you to respawn there like a keep, which will make it harder than in DAoC for the new controlling realm to wipe out the old. Also, you can log back in at a controlled IC section, so it sounds possible that a team would lose access to the IC but still be able to hold section(s) of the city.

I think you have to gain control of all the surrounding keeps, then everyone piles in and starts gaining control of districts. While one faction is inside It leaves the keeps free to be taken by the other two factions, which by gaining control can storm into IC and clear out the faction inside.

The only issue I see is the way that cryodil is setup there will probably be everyone joining the one they are winning in to get control. Also DAOC took a really long time to level in I could see people just switching teams if one side always has control since people can level in the blink of an eye.

Sounds like it could be a pretty dynamic environment. i just hope its thoroughly tested before launch in hopes to minimize bugs AND exploits......

    Personal opinion:
Imperial City gonna be a even bigger LAG party, than the current Cyrodiil issue...
Unless they FIX the awful lag and fps drop in PVP/EU - the Imperial city gonna be a disaster.

Is there an estimated time as to when the city will be available? It looked pretty polished; Is it safe to assume sometime in the next couple of months?

Yes I agree, IC control will be very valuable for leveling (and loot). But remember, people in the IC cant be defending keeps in Cyrodiil. So it becomes very easy for another realm to take control over access. I think the reduction to 5 campaigns will help also. But I agree, this is one more reason why campaign balance must be reasonable. Not perfectly balanced, but at least in the ballpark, where every realm has a chance.

no timelines. But yes they have been working on this for a long time and it does look pretty far along. I am sure it will come along before say spellcrafting and probably the other new zones they announced. I sure hope so, because spellcrafting IMO could be a real timesink for the programmers due to exploit/bug/balance/patching issues.

I personally haven't lagged in Cyrodiil since the last patch fix. My son plays on my old computer and he doesn't lag either. We play on Wabba so its pretty crowded. Elladan and Elrohir, 95% of the time we play together, say hi if you see us!

That would be interesting and pretty difficult to accomplish on a busy pvp server. It would open up some interesting tactics to hold on to that one last keep while in control. Also the third faction could go around back capping the faction trying to take control.

Yeah, the exact same thing was pretty much a complete fail in DAoC.

Yeah Im sure modeling this game off the game that people still consider one of the best PvP games ever is going to be the worst idea in the history of the world!

I wouldn't say they are modelling ESO on DAoC it is just one element that is the same not a model of it. Do WoW & EQ not have raids ? They are completely different games just with SOME similar aspects.

Well I guess aside from hiring devs from DAOC, and having the same RvRvR concept, and same keep siege ideas and the same PvP based PvE dungeon .. you are probably right they are not even similar at all.

Well PvP in ESO is very much modeled after DAoC, and the Imperial City concept is almost identical to Darkness Falls in DAoC.

If PvE players don't want to go in, they don't have to. But in DAoC PvE players loved it, other than the occasional relic defense, it was just about the only thing that made pure PvE players care about PvP.

For every PvE person that doesn't like the Imperial City concept, there will be 10 who like it. Its about as close to a win/win as you get in PvE/PvP debates.

polished on a FMV clip is one thing, polished when there are 1000 players running around... is quite another !

Darkness falls was fun. I hope it's implemented like DAoC with people entering and finding groups as the mobs become more challenging. Not WoW style where you spam for groups before you even dare enter.

That's been a huge disappointment to me in ESO. I really believe a good AVA/RVR community hinges on peer development in a DAOC style dungeons.

ToA ran a lot people off because it changed RvR with new abilities. I thought the implementation of it was brilliant aside from the huge changes it had on PvP. Frontiers was the nail in the coffin with drastic AvA changes. I really wish ZOS would do something to in courage clashes more often that we found in DAoC before frontiers. This is a start, kind of.

I really miss DAoC for the community it could build with the dungeons style.
