"Seasonal Gear" -- How will it work?

I don't understand. Is it going to be like some WoW seasonal gear where you have to keep getting new gear all the time? How will this affect crafters? Does anyone know how this might work?

This is what is said about on Dulfy's

"In the Champion system, we will have more gear introduced by seasons where there is no level requirement. They will be harder to get. Season 8 gear will be more powerful than season 7 gear for example but the season 7 gear will be more readily available. There will be a solution for crafting as well."

Oh great, either they are just going to add more gear every three months or it's going to be a complex system nobody wants.
People believe what they either want to be true or what they are afraid is true!

Yup, sounds like they are just gonna up the level cap and add new gear every couple of months.

They've already said they're planning to remove the VR system, which should happen this year (patch 1.4 or 1.5). Champion system will replace it, which isn't leveling but merely points to apply to your character sheet to continually improve your character. Seasoned gear simply means in-game "seasons" will continue to see an influx of new gear which will mean people who WANT the best, and are OK spending a lot of time getting it as it comes out can be the best while people who are a bit more casual can just get older seasoned gear as the availability will increase due to lower stats compared to newer season gear.

It's step 1 to fixing a bigger issue.
Make a max level. Character level

Reward those who have achieved VR levels

Figure out the rest of endgame at a later date

What kind of "solution" do you think they will come up with for crafters?

As I recall, they have said they are open to feedback before the changes go live.

To developers: Please don't make this game a gear grind.

They're going to release new gear every few months, but since they're removing VR levels, it's all going to be lvl 50 gear. And the previous "seasons" gear will become readily available so that even if you didn't participate in the gear race you don't fall behind.

It means that the impatient players can run around and sink hours into the game to get the exact same gear that will be available for the casual player that waited a few months and purchased it from a vendor.
It is a bit like fashion. The cool kids will run after the gear to be in fashion and the normal people wait until it is on summersale ;)

Exactly, and that really sounds awesome to me. ESO is becoming more and more like a game I'd love. Taking my favorite parts of other MMO's and putting them all into one game. Can't wait.

Really excited about all the new things they plan on adding into the game, but this one bit scared me as well. I hated that the most as a veteran WoW player, you know, new patch hits, you get your raid, gear to grind.. rinse, repeat. a very predictable experience overall (WoW of today in a nutshell). Nothing is fun or meaningful about that, at least in my opinion, especially true if you are behind and have to 'catch up'.

That's why the new players can buy the older seasoned gear from vendors. So you will only be a few patches behind and can also go and raid for gear when you have reached level 50.

This sort of thing will only effect PvE most likely, since if you're PvPing at all, you'll be using crit resist on your gear..if you're not currently, you really really should be.

I hope they make it better than Blizzard did.

What I mean is, at WOW you are nothing if you don't wear the brand new loot. You get steamrolled in pvp, are not allowed in dungeons or raids etc.

Its like running against windmills, while you have the old stuff - you cant really use it, as its too weak compared to the new.

What I would like to see is the ability to get high end gear either in dungeons, raids and pvp, but also in that new solo pve zone which has single player dungeons.

Needless to say that crafters should always be able to make the best loot, either by learning new recipes or their gear is automatically updated.

Time will tell I guess, based on WOW they know how not to do it - so that's hopefully a big plus for the developers ;)

They also said at the Quakecon presentation that they are going to add new motifs. That will mean that crafters will be able to craft the gear that the non-playable races in the new zones will be using (like, for instance, the Imperial Daedric armor, from the Imperial City zone).

I personally love constantly striving for gear. After I quit WoW I hated thinking I was just running a treadmill. Then I played GW2, got to cap, got fully geared on two characters, then quit because I was bored. Sometimes people don't know what they want.

Solution for crafting maybe all seasonal gear will be purple, crafting needed to upgrade. All seasonal gear will be lvl 50, and we use crafting to scale the gear to our Vet level. Also they noted there WILL be new motifs, new zones also mean new crafting sets. These are just my guesses, anyone got any others?

That's all this game needs, massive gear creep.

So we got gear score, gear creep, inspection and arenas coming. I can hardly contain my excitement. /sigh
