The Steam Work Around

ESO is downloading as I type this, but in theory this how one get to use Steam with their current account.

Problem: ESO will NOT install with out the Steam Keys

Work Around the work around to get the Steam Keys to install the game:

1) Buy the game and setup up the (temp) 2nd account to install the game. (just extra loop to jump into to get the Steam Keys)

2) Once the ESO is install, it will be like a "Friend's house" You goes to your friend's house and login with "real" account on his / her computer to play your char at their house.

3) Log in with your "real main" account to play ESO in Steam

It is not really Steam fault for the extra loops one must get into, it is ZOS's fault how they set it up. For example: RIFT can use the same login to setup the client on either it is download from their web page or via Steam. Don't know why ZOS did not do the same. One account that rule them all!

A major draw back to this work around theory:
Yes, you will lose your free month and any pets, etc Because those are tried to Steam Keys on your 2nd temp Account

You are wrong steam wont let ZoS give out extra keys for existing customers without paying for them. ZoS could careless if you want to play the game through steam as long as you are playing.

Yep, thus my recent post commenting on a customer service response to a concerned player relating to the Steam issue.

They are 'putting this on Steam', but ZOS knew the exact conditions Steam cited and instead of negotiating or applying pressure they ran with that frickkin' deal nonetheless concerned in the least about what some now call TESO's 'loyal, original supporters/early rendition subbers.

    Yea. :\

I don't understand how this would work.

Buying the game through Steam will require you to set up a second account. Period. You can't apply two copies of the game to the same account for obvious reasons.

It's a work-around, not a solution. That means, You will spend initial money on a second account you won't be using (no dog for your neither, unless you re-roll), but will have the steam functions.

I have never heard anyone in my life say that, given a choice between playing a game through Steam or straight off their hard drive, they would choose Steam.

    @nerevarine1138,

I merely tried to paraphrase it so you would understand it. I wouldn't pay for it again, no point having steam run on top of the launcher and ESO.

well in all fairness they probably asked if existing players could play on steam and they said yes and you can, But to access steam achieves and services you need to buy through them (which I assume they did not mention). I am sure that their was a breakdown on communication somewhere and now ZoS is caught in the crossfire. In all honesty if I were ZoS I would say *** it and pull it off steam. Then I would throw the pet into a cash shop and keep all the money myself.

Is The Steam Work Around something you get at a massage parlor of questionable repute?

Steam Says that I am "ESO" NOT (Non-steam game ESO), the timer is working and the overlay and I got my 1st ESO Steam Card. I did not make the 2nd account yet.

The work around did work, ESO is fully Steam enable it seems. I did not get my free 30 days nor the pets (I got the cheaper standard edition because I already had the Imperial one).

When I login, my main account have all my stuff from imperial even I am running the standard edition on the local HD now. All of that is server side anyways.

glad it worked out well for you it seems as though this is the best option to play through steam. You can always get a different dog when they are released in a future patch so its whatever unless someone is hell bent on that dog.

It makes perfect sense. Why would you simply play the game when you have the opportunity to provide an unrelated third party usage statistics and other marketing data? It's part of the Facebook generation mentality. They DEMAND Orwellian surveillance on everything they do.

I understand why ZOS would use Steam as a marketing channel, more exposure equals more sales. Why people would demand to integrate a game they already bought with an unneeded level of management is confusing.

What happens if you buy something on steam though (like a horse, or future add on) does that horse apply to your old account?

Steam is giving product key. So for example, if you bought horse, so you can use this product key on your old account. I didn't test this, but how I think.

I like the extra tools that steam has -- pic hosting, fan groups (see sig for the one I made), easy way to show off videos, etc

Also, it cool to keep in touch with the same people and build good friendships
