Will resto staff stay the best dps weapon for nightblade?

It seems to me a benchmark that the best dps weapon for using nightblade skills is considered to be a resto staff.

Is this working as intended? Or will this change with 1.3?

Resto staff is currently the best dps weapon for any class.
From what we have heard this isnt about to change anytime soon.
If you are referring to stamina builds, Dual wield should now be able to to decent aoe damage however without significant buffs to stamina skills single target dps will remain terrible.

On the plus side you are no longer forced to wear a robe and staff to do decent damage, you can now wear a jerkin and staff.

If that only worked, I wouldn't use it anyways. :p

It does. You can surprise attack with a staff. I dont know where you shove it but the staff seems to disappear somewhere.

Well, this actually is a good reason why it breaks stealth on the very first tick. Damage should be higher, though. Unless you're attacking a Breton, that is...

Wow the racism is real, are you implying Breton enjoy taking staff from behind?

He's talking about the skill named "Surprise Attack", not an attack from stealth. Using Surprise Attack with a staff is the same as using Surprise Attack with 2 daggers.

If you are playing solo and using mostly skills from melee range, than the staff isn't much better than using DW, if at all. The 10% damage bonus from the staff isn't a true 10%. It is 1% for every 10% of health and you are rarely at 100% health if you're soloing. It ends up being closer to 6-7%. The DW passives and extra crit chance can more than make up for the slight damage boost. Even using 2 swords would get you about the same bonus.

There are only a limited number of reasons to use the staff. The most important is that it is a ranged weapon, and ranged is king in this game. Fighting in melee range against VR dungeon bosses, trials, other bosses means running in and out of AoE range too often and losing DPS. The 2nd reason would be the 10% damage passive which I've already addressed. The only other reason is the heal on heavy attacks, but I almost never use heavy attacks when I'm playing as they tend to actually lower your DPS.

Those are lots of reasons to use a resto staff.

Another major reason is that you can put heal skills on your bar to save your ass in PVP and VR dungeon bosses. So in this situation, the resto staff is not only the best offensive weapon, but also the best defensive weapon (even for tanking, in many situations).

Also, in PVP, the resto staff's heavy attack is not reflected by DK reflecting scales, whereas bow attacks are. Therefore, resto staff has the versatility that bows do not in being one of the few ranged attacks that you have against reflecting scales.
