Combat skills mechanics

Hi everybody! (Hi dr.Nick :D ). It's not my first mounth of the game and I still like it. And I create not a few toons to try ALL and find out what I like more. But one thing I'm not sure - it is combat mechanic. So let me explain what is wrong. For example puncturing strikes (Templar aedric spear skill line).
- Range of this skill - 8 meters.
- This skill uses magika.
- This skill uses weapon crit.

This video is pretty old (25 march) and ZOS could change all this.
So is this a melee attack?
Or searing strike (5m) or lava whip(8m) (DK ardent flame skill line). Are they melee?
What skill is melee and what is range?
For me if you can attack only for 8m or nearer - it is melee, but I'm not a developer, so I don't know for sure. Or if skill use weapon crit - it should be a melee. This seems a pretty logical too.
And how about passives like red diamond (Imperial healing passive)? It says that it have chanse on melee atack, so is it any melee atack or only weapon attack? Hope to see ZOS comment, but if someone else know answer - you're welcome!

So, on forum I see that almost all topics are moaning on something or moaning that all forum topics are moaning on something or discuss dyes. Really? This is the last time I up my topic because I really want to know answer and mechanic of skills. Still wait for ZOS answer about this.

Most of what you are asking can be found by going to Google and searching. Have you tried this already...?

@Liquid_Time, yep. If it was helpful, I would not ask here. I google a lot but I only could find that video about weapon/spell crit. It's usefull, but not what I was expect to find. What I want to know it is will Red Diamond work with skills like lava whip or puncturing strikes.
And would be nice to see in description of skill into game that this skill uses weapon crit and it's melee or it uses spell crit and it's range atack IMO.

I found out about this today when i asked a noob question about my NB.
I felt like an idiot for framing my build around spell damage/ crit thinking if it used Magica then it's spell crit for sure -_-

I'm not even sure now after this revelation about weapon damage, will more weapon damage increase my crit amount maybe?

@Fiatsu‌, it seems right. More damage you deal with weapon = more crit.

If you want to discuss game mechanics than you would be much better off heading over to Tamrielfoundry.com versus the official complaint forums.

@Vuron‌, here I can get official ZOS answer. And this is very important because no one else can answer for 100% sure.

You will rarely, if ever, get an official response to a mechanics questions on these forums. The TF forums is where most of the mechanics discussions take place and the theory crafters are usually more than happy to post their supporting documentation.
