Heavy Armor is Becoming More Important With update 3

While you don't see any buff given directly to the heavy armor line there are many hidden factors effecting it making it much more important and viable with update 3.

So with update 3 on the PTS. Soft cap are being signifigantly changed. the first thing is the spell power soft cap is being dropped down a bit. Alot of casters were already over the soft cap, they will be doing less damage now. Those that were close to the cap will also be doing slightly less damage. On the other side Weapon Damage Soft cap got greatly increased. 2hand and DW were already over this, now they will be doing more damage as well as being able to enchant jewelry to do more effective damage without hitting the soft cap. This means that armor will be much more important than it is now.
The other big thing is all the softcaps are being raised, armor being one of them. a full set of heavy armor alone will not hit the softcap. making heavy armor benefit you more. if light armor user want to hit the armor softcap they will have to sacrafice all their jewelry enchants with +armor, taking away spell damage or spell resists enchant bonuses.

So with heavy armor benefiting you more and more weapon damage happening, i see the need for heavy armor going way up for survival

Does the armor cap make any difference if wearing 1k of armor vs 2k of armor means 50 more damage received?

At the moment armor means little, but that above changes in patch 1.3 is a good start.

I don't see any notes on changes to the way damage mitigation is done, so I am doubtful that the softcap changes will actually make armor mean anything. Whether you are in light or heavy armor, you will still hit the damage mitigation cap while blocking.

This won't matter in pve if npcs still have 90% armor penetration
