How to Make Duels Work For Everyone?

Since the poll thread is kind of useless, I would like to have a better discussion on this topic.

Basically, I like the ability to have duels but I understand the reservations people have.

I would suggest that duels be allowed under these conditions:

A ) Not allowed in cities. Duels cannot be requested while within the boundaries of cities. There are enough people in these zones and we don't need tons of players battling it out in the streets. I admit I'm one of those people who likes casting heals in cities for no reason on occasion while waiting on friends, but I try to keep that in lower population cities so I don't bother people who are already lagging.

B ) Duels cannot be requested unless you toggle a duel "flag." Guild invite spam is bad enough. Duels would worsen this if no system was in place to prevent it. Simply make it so players cannot request duels to other players unless their duel flag is manually set to on.

This is of course for open-world dueling, and the other option is to make dedicated locations with more constrained mechanics.

    Yup, if they put those two restrictions on it, I'm fine with it. I've never gotten why people can't just do this kind of thing in a separate Arena, but as long as it is auto-set to not accept by default and keep it out of the cities, I am fine with it.

    As long as we can turn off the invites and we don't have to deal with people duking it out in cities, I'm perfectly fine with dueling. Actually, I'd partake in it quite a bit myself.

    How about ZOS take one of the Cyrodill campaigns and name it "Arena" with the special rules that anyone there can challenge anyone else there to duel... Keeps become open transit points, all Skyshards and Delves are removed and keeps and their farms are turned into smaller or larger circles, small circles for 1v1 larger circles for 3v3, 5v5 or other group mechanics...

    Leaving a Circle constitutes an instant loss (death).
    Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

    Thanks for the feedback. As for making a new Cyrodiil campaign, I feel like that wouldn't work too well. The zone already has a purpose. I'd also like to not have to go too far to duel.

    Easiest "duel" fix - create a instanced arena where guilds can hang out and pvp without interference. Where you can pvp same faction players.

    Just add a sparring floor in the basement of each cities fighters guild, similar to the fighters guilds in TES:IV. Make it instanced to keep spell effects and duel chat spam away from the general pop.

    Edit: they can sick the practice dummies to check your dps in there too. 2 birds with 1 stone.
