July 8 Road Ahead: Small update means big changes (Store availability based on owning a keep)

Lets quickly review how this works right now for many.
  • You join a "crafting/Trading" guild (usually 1 to 4 of them)
  • You choose a guild (or guilds) based on how big / active the store is
  • Crafting/Trading guilds have no community short of something similar to regular zone chat.
  • Crafting/Trading guild leadership keeps things going by deleting inactive members and adding new members.
  • eh, it's clumsy, but I guess it kinda works. Players just find the 4 largest trading guilds, and now have some semblance of a game-wide auction house. Now you can buy/sell items with a large population of players, similar to your typical MMO auction house everyone wants.
  • 5th guild usually reserved for an actual guild that raids, does dungeon runs together etc...often, there is no store with these guilds

Now we have this change
Store updates: anyone in your alliance can browse your guild store in Cyrodiil if your guild owns a keep.

Anyone see what this means? Here is what I think will happen.

1. All crafting/trading guilds will disappear! (good thing!)
2. People will now join active raiding guilds...probably 5 of them
3. Best guilds determined by those that A. have lots of players and B. are able to consistently hold a Cyrodiil keep.
4. Guild leadership wants to keep their beloved store strong? Now they have to get a PvP group going, working together, to get their keep.

End Result
More reason to PvP
Guilds have more reason to work together, especially to acquire and defend their keep.

Unintended Consequences?
Here is the big problem - A Guild's official campaign is one that their alliance dominates. Suddenly another alliance takes all the keeps back...and, as usually happens, quickly loses all the keeps to the dominating alliance. And I see, the Guild who USE to own a keep, not owning one anymore.

This Guild that has 500 players, active, great guild store...now lost their keep, and has NO way of getting it back, because their alliance owns all the keeps.

I still believe this is a GREAT change. I still believe the major point of the end game is getting better equipment and PvP. This will help A LOT

This actually was a negative in my opinion. There is a sizable amount of people who do not pvp and may be forced into a PvP zone to visit their guilds store or one of the more active guild stores around. Also, the bidding for the kiosks is going to be insane. Guilds able to collect lots of gold from their members will monopolize this or no one will because the bidding turns out to be ridiculously burdensome or unfair.

Hopefully with the kiosks at least they cap guilds from taking claim for one a week or two at a time. Just my opinion of course. :)

Hmm there is one flaw in here already.
Most guilds have a 1 guild policy (except of trading guilds).

    Further:
Also trading guilds will still be used. You can still trade normally in guild store. It only means that if you guild has a keep you will be more likely to sell things but not necessarily buy things because it is the same that you have in your normal guild store. So if you want to buy something you would go an check on the other keeps anyway. Further we also get kiosks now allowing PvE players to browse things from others and active trading guilds will have the upperhand there. The guild will have more money as a small amount is kept by the guild leader, so if the guild leader isn't corrupt an active 500 member trading guild will be able to out auction a kiosk every week making it able to sell the goods in the PvE area.

Could you elaborate pls, why all trading guilds will disappear? People will still need a store to sell and buy things, why would they all disappear?

I don't think that guild wise much will change, however hopefully more people will player PvP to gain some keeps.

While this may end up being a bit too heavy handed, I'm all for changes to things that encourage players to actually play the game. I'm sure there will be plenty of trading guilds that can survive without having a keep, but this is a good way to reward a broad range of skillsets with the economy in mind.

Trading guilds wont go away. I don't know if I like the idea of these trader kiosks though going to the highest bidder. I mean if there is a trade guild out there that has dominated since day one and has lots of money over everyone else, they could be winning bids every week for eternity.

Trading guilds currently do nothing but have a store.
In order for a guild to have a successful store, they need to have a keep.
In order to have a keep, they need to work together
Leaders of trading guilds will have to adjust to become a PvP guild.

The big key: Players WILL flock to guilds that have keeps. Guaranteed. Trading only guilds with no PvP will die, because they will have a hard time getting players.

Zone chat: Guild looking for more, we actively work to secure a keep

    vs.

Zone chat: Trading guild looking for more members. Sorry no keep.

Where are players going to go?

    dont forget the following.
•Traders: The Gold Coast Trading Company will establish kiosks throughout the cities of Tamriel. The merchants running the kiosks can be hired by guilds on a weekly basis (via auction) to act as a portal to their guild’s store, which can be browsed by any player in the guild’s alliance. Auctions use a blind bidding process and are held once a week per merchant.

This is horrid. They need to break down and just give us AHs. Not as a stupid reward for PvPing (which all I like is PvP). There needs to be real rewards from PvP that make a player more awesome in PvP. ZOS also needs to hire someone that plays mmos still and actually plays this game, as an idea man.

    ZOS 2 months ago..
Guy 1: We don't have end game content.
Matt Frior: Double mob health and damage output to make the treadmill last longer.

    Last week
Forum PR Guys: We are reverting the VR content to be more easy. We don't want to force grouping.

    Meeting last week:
Guy 1: Players keep asking for an AH and to be honest the store system in this game bites.
Matt Frior: Let's give it as a PvP reward! F ya! *moonwalks out of meeting room*

    2 months after it's implemented.
Forum PR Guys: We are reverting from guild stores at keeps and adding in an auction system. Are intentions are not to force PvE players to PvP in order to have a good method to sale there stuff.

The article also states there will be kiosks throughout Tamriel in which guilds can sell their wares. Not just in Cyrodil.

Even if you have a keep all you can do is sell your stuff. If you had an active trading guild you should have already been able to do that anyway.

In all honesty I don't care if my trading guilds have keeps or not. It is so exhausting having to fight and keep a keep going all the time. I rather just put my stuff in the store as usual and sell it in 12h.

Also the kiosks will be much better because it will be much easier to check them out than travelling from one keep to another. (Like the ones at the border you have to ride to).

I wouldn't be so pessimistic about it. I think trading guilds will easily survive and thrife in these changes.

It sounds like there are now NPC kiosks/vendors that guilds can pay to sell items for them.

I kind of like this idea.

My recommendation is to make the more heavily used vendors charge more in taxes/selling costs. Want the hottest guy on the market to sell your stuff and reach the biggest audience? It is going to cost you a bit more.

This would encourage guilds and players to shop at less-used vendors in other places.

    Players would travel more.

Heck... I'd like to see traveling vendors that roam around the different maps.

Agreed, a wild card. How much is this going to cost? Can players help cover the costs? Do people like auctions vs. buy-it-now features in MMOs?

One one hand I like the idea.

It would make guild members to work together, that is what actually guilds are for.

But on the other hand I thought that traders try to avoid combat zones. How is it going to be that they have to flock to one?

I'm primarily a pvper, and I think this is *** stupid. Too many balance and population issues in Cyrodil right now to add something like this.

Why is an additional reason to PvP stupid? It's adding another goal.

I love this idea that ZOS is coming out with. The only thing that is going to stink is the times where the main guild in a campaign does not own a keep because too many of the keeps are owned by guilds who have just like 1 person in them. That might have to stop or at least the other players in the campaign have to make sure that the major guilds have a keep before claiming one.
