PvP FPS/lag: is grouping causing it?

So as you may have seen, the forums have been full of threads about the FPS/lag issues in Cyrodiil for the past 2 weeks. I haven't played much since the campaigns reset due to leveling my NB in PvE, but I played a lot of PvP this weekend on NA Wabbajack and came in expecting lots of lag and general unplayability, only to have no problems with FPS or lag... except when I was in a group.

I noticed that all the screenshots people post showing their 5-6 FPS seem to have one thing in common: they're all in groups. I usually play solo in PvP due to not wanting to use TS or any other voice-chat (personal preference), and good luck finding a group then, but the few instances I joined a group, the lag and FPS drop was near instantaneous. Even a small group of 5-6 people caused it, yet when I'd leave the group everything would go back to normal and stay that way unless I joined another group. I even went to the biggest battles on Wabbajack such as the battle at Bloodmayne/Eastern Elsweyr Gate, with 100+ EP and AD on screen, without any lag or FPS issues.

Yet I haven't seen anyone else point this out. Lots of "get a better computer" or "STFU it's not my computer" comments, but it seems for me at least, this FPS/lag is caused by grouping. Still needs to fixed, obviously, this is an MMO and grouping is expected.

EDIT: This is not a propsed fix or a workaround, I'm simply pointing out what I've experienced this weekend in PvP and asking a question. You'd think that'd be obvious from the title being "PvP FPS/lag: is grouping causing it?", i.e a question, not "PvP FPS/lag can be fixed by playing solo".

It happens to me when solo, too, in Wabbajack.

And until the next generation GPU's come out, there's nothing I can really upgrade.

I thought this may have been the problem as well until testing it further. Its still an issue while solo for me as well.

The FPS issue isn't because of grouping, it happens regardless of being in a group or not.

Well I guess these issues really do affect people differently, I've not run into any FPS/lag issues in PvP or PvE at all for the past 2 weeks, except when in a group.

During this time, when you did not experience low frame rate, were you entering keeps under siege with lots of enemy players?

No, I'd run my last several days solo in PvP... and it was still a gamebreaking issue for me.

When I first got FPS drop, I'd joined a group at Bloodmayne while it was under siege. FPS drop happened within seconds. Then I left group, relogged, and FPS stayed good during the entire battle. I even followed the zerg train to Elsewyr Gate, fighting the whole time, no lag. Died and spawned at the Forward camp we'd put up at Eastern Elsweyr Gate, 30 EP fought against 40 or so AD, no lag. Continued the whole night and only got FPS drop when I joined a group, no matter how many people were near me.

So you jumped in for a few sessions and decide that your experience is much more superior than those of us who has suffered for 2 weeks?

Coming up with BS such as grouping affected FPS? ZOS will gladly hire you, since apparently it isn't affected by the restro staff, must be the group eh?

It's been two weeks. We tried everything. PVP player count dwindle from 5 digits to 4. We are tired of workarounds that doesn't work.

    We solo-ed.
    We edited settings.
We edited settings using the .txt.
    We updated driver.
    We experimented with processes.
    We stopped using certain skills.
    We tried less AOE.
We tried tweaking the graphic card settings.
    We avoided keeps.
We stay away from big fights.
We relog over and over again.
We play at the minimum of minimum settings.
Windows mode, full screen mode, all resolutions whatsoever are tried.
Play on Mac, play on Windows, play on desktop, play on laptop, it's all the same torturing experience.

So please, if your logic is along the lines of ZOS developers, go read the forums.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's culture. And the Elves.

I merely pointed out what I've experienced and asked a question. I never said this was a fix, nor that this applies to everyone. "It seems for me at least" is clearly stated.
You're clearly looking for an argument, go look elsewhere.

The ONLY workaround to avoid fps drops in Cyrodiil is to avoid any and all activity related to actual PvP!

I can't say for certain, but it was during a siege so it is likely.

When someone opens with unnecessary personal attacks/argument baiting I tend to not follow their advice.
Plus he didn't reference any threads, he pointed out what he's tried to get it to work.

I wonder if the brand of video card makes a difference. I got an older Nvidia GTX 570 and i dont get the crippling FPS drops like others here. I get some lag, but in a large battle i can still get 20-30 fps. Is it AMD cards that are having problems?

This is why I think this issue will take a while to fix... some people have crippling lag, some have a bit, some have none at all. Some people clain to have tried it on older computers and gotten no lag, yet have tons of it on a brand spanking new computer.
