Recharging Ultimates

How do ultimate's recharge? I love using ultimate's, but they seem to recharge very slowly. I need to fight about 5 battles before it is recharged. What is the formula for recharging? I am a Templar and need the help of my ultimate.

I can not speak on Templars, but as a DK I have certain skills that add ultimate points when used. Also you get points whenever you crit something. However they lowered the amount of this which has definitely slowed it down.

Ultimate abilities recharge based on a number of factors.

    1. The level of the enemies you're facing. Killing enemies that are <4 levels below you will result in little to no ultimate gain at all, making this one of the most important things to consider.
    2. How many times you hit your enemies. Ultimates recharge not just by defeating enemies, but (from my observations) also a little bit each time your enemies take a hit. It's important to make sure you aren't dispatching your enemies in 1-2 hits.
    3. How you use your abilities. Using abilities generates more ultimate than light/heavy attacks, but using the same ability over and over likely doesn't help much. Using a variety of abilities in each battle will not only increase your survivability, but also generate more ultimate in the long run.
    4. And finally, passives. The Dawn's Wrath (?) skill line includes passives that bestow extra ultimate each time you use one of the abilities, so that's a good factor to take in, even if the effects don't seem like much.

Criting is very important and is always applicable for ultimate gain. If you crit on low level mobs you still get ultimate even if you kill or damage them you do not..
Having DOT which also crit is also a great way to get ultimate fast. So the fastest way to get ultimate is to have a lot of critical chance to use AOES and/or something that adds DOT. One of the best example is the destro staff impulse it is AOE and it can add burning which in turn can crit and add even more ultimate. Each class also has some ultimate building passive or skills. You also have a big boost to ultimate gain against undead and Daedra from fighters guild.

Finally heals and heals over time also crit and these can crits also add ultimate. Grand healing can build ultimate out of combat really fast if you have a lot of spell crit.

Oh and everything @emeraldbay said also.
