Hello everyone and welcome.
Myself, like many of you hate botters. I hate (yes hate) how they ruin economy, and they congest area that could be casually farmed by real ppl playing the game. I hate the fact that they can lvl up a full account of alts in a few weeks to have them all skilled in crafts that send them boat loads of mats everyday.
So I've decided to share a few ways to help you the actual player spot a botter, and as well you can share anything you know to help more and more ppl spot them so we can see the end of them. (I no longer receive mail from gold spammers which is good, i reported MANY)
First and foremost the "Bot walk"
Many of you might be confused, im going to clear that up right now. So bots cant control the mouse and use the "move forward" key to walk. So they generally move with a "click to move" function. What this does, is that it causes the character to move from its current position to a new position without turning. For example if you see someone looting an object then they immediately begin walking in another direction, without an obvious turning motion, generally that means they are using click to move. The same goes for anyone walking in one direction, then suddenly they are walk in another direction without actually turning. This is a tell tale sign of botting. (Not saying that real ppl dont use click to move, that would be stupid of me to say that. But its more rare then a bot)
The "Loot delay"
This one is slightly harder to notice, until you've seen it a few times. What happens here is after a pack of mobs has been killed is the toon will cease all movement and stand still for a second, or possibly 2-3. The bot is analyzing the corpses to determine which one has loot. It will then loot and continue. Sometimes after the kill is made the bot will back step away from the group of mobs and stop. Then walk forward to loot, and immediately walk in another direction to continue.
The "Combat delay"
When attacking a group of mobs the bot will stop for a second, unsheath, then begin to engage. The sequence will be very mechanical and hard to detect until youve seen it once or twice. As well the bot cannot walk and attack at the same time, so all forms of combat happen in a still position, and likewise all forms of movement will not have attack animations set in them. But, also note the bot will never swing wildly like a click spamming human. All attacks will be clear and concise aimed at a target from a still position.
The obvious path
You will notice that they will usually (while farming) follow a distinct path. Usually set up before by the user, or in a profile made by someone else. This is generally a loop, a loop between known spawns of mobs, set to be lengthy enough to make sure the the mobs have respawned when they return. Or between known nodes for farming materials, and they will always take nearly the exact same route.
This also applies to ppl that are "Macro botting" where they have set up a macro loop to log in and open a single container in a building that is usually abandon and not a normal farming place for the masses. Then log out and repeat to get motifs and things.
This is just a portion of what the botting scene can offer you as a clue to their deception. So I encourage you to help everyone recognize them, and we can work together to rid Tamriel of these scum!
