Economy

Now I am new to game, I am only half way through the levels atm. I'm trying to observe the economy and finding that very difficult due to there being no Broker. I understand there are mini brokers in each guild but I'm finding those of no help what so ever. How is 1 to determine the going rates of items when the only thing to go off of is zone chat, and even with zone chat the bulk of what i see is motifs and low level gear. I imagine unless someone tells me differently at 50 i will find the town all the 50s hang out at, but unless zone chat is really packed with people trying to sell ***, how am i to find out what to go farm to make my gold? I've got some ideas right now, but none of them involve farming any certain item other then motifs. In fact that's the only thing i see selling...other then a crazy recipe i saw earlier going for 900k probably not a real price, but if it is i have no idea...

I've tried checking on the forums, really the only thing i gather from the forums is a lot of hate from people toward the game on different aspects. Not really what I'm looking for.

If anyone has any advice or some light to shed on how i can go about understanding the economy more in depth I'd appreciate it!

the 900k recipe is sadly true, its a purple recipe its THE hardest single item to come by, next to imperial motif. Though that only goes for like 100k. People want that recipe so much, and with like 0.00000001 drop rate, supply and demand for this is insane, thats why the price is like that.

Join trading guilds, make good friends that help you with selling things or buying them for the right prize.

Lets take the blue motifs, if you suddenly see one person selling 6 of them, its a clear picture they are easy to get for many, and there for low price. anything above 1k for those, is them trying to ripe u off. I give mine to my guildies for free.

You can make 10,000g on a stack of the right alchemy plants.
    Bugloss, Columbine, etc.

Raw materials of anything, regardless of level, can be sold for an average of 1,200-1,300 a stack. Do not sell raw materials for less than 1,000 a stack.

Veteran-level provisioning mats also sell well.

I know you said you'd rather not, but watching WTB ads in zone chat is a great way to see what's in demand. Once you know that, be the supply. Happy trading! ;)

"The Economy" is a fake minigame between players. I hate this fake minigame and I don't want to have to go through those barriers to satisfy my needs, I want to be self sufficient.

That said, sometimes you need to engage in commerce.

    1. Weapon/Armor Traits: This is one of the hottest things, worth about 250-1k each. This can be personally crafted items or found loot with the trait.

    2. Decon Weapons/Armor:
What do you think is happening with the crap you sell? Chances are, someone like me is buying it, and deconstructing for crafting skill increases. If you price items around 100-300/ea, then I am a customer. Some people fail by pricing items at 500-1200.

    3. Enchanting:
Many enchanters have unreasonable prices. Not a whole lot of top enchanters. They are selling purple glyphs for 4.5k. Obviously, this kind of pricing is crazy and easy to undercut. Purple/Gold mats easily worth 2-3k.

    4. Alchemy:
Many nooblets spend too much time "WTB Bugloss, Columbine, Dragonthorn, Namira's Rot 30/ea!! COD anytime any number!!" and for each of this, I see people offering 100/ea and up to 500/ea. I would personally NEVER sell an Alchemy stack but you can name your price and get it.

    5. Purple Recipes:
Everyone has enough blue ones the prices are down to 50 each or so. If you ever, ever find a purple recipe just sell for 2mil and know some gold farmer has that much.

    6. Motifs and Provisioning:
With the coming crime system, many containers will be hidden behind Crime. Stocking up now might be a wise idea.

    Within; Without.

I don't really engage with the economics. I was talking to a lovely fellow just outside of Ebonheart in Stonefalls. He had 3k in gold ready but was looking for a horse. I gave him the 14k right there and then, which at the time left me with around 4k. Helping others is the way forwards, the gold isn't real and that guy is now my friend and often helps me find certain materials I am looking for and vice versa.

The same goes for items. I often gift people items (people I don't know) and then they think of me later when they find something and pass it back at me. Help them, help you. :)

I see what you're saying Solosus, So far ESO is proving that it is a completely different mindset from games like wow, rift or aion. I've always been good at finding ways to hold my own, but that has always been from hours of looking at the broker and seeing what sells. In ESO I'm getting that is not the same.

I'll do some more looking around to see what i can come up with, i was already thinking of using decon to its fullest potential...as it seems you can farm raw materials faster if you got a grind group going in a public dungeon and deconing everything. thx for the tips guys, if you got anymore you'd love to share I'm all ears and very appreciative!

Anyone who sells Bugloss & Columbine specifically, is just a farmer and not a serious player.

Any serious player knows that those two alone, have such value that a price tag cannot be attached to them. I wouldn't even sell a stack of them, even if the offering price was 100,000 gold.

If you're wondering the price of a certain item, try asking politely in zone chat what people think it's worth, do it a few times in different areas at different times to get a good idea.

Items are worth what people are willing to pay for them. I've paid too much for stuff before, because it was available at the time I needed it. I've also purchased a purple recipe I already had for 800 gold, that I later sold for 20k plus another purple I didn't have. Not every purple recipe is the same, ones that take oats or tomato for example are less desirable, because those ingredients can only be gotten from hirelings. The level also plays a big part in the price, that 900k one would probably be VR5, the purples I have learned are all level 35.

Well most times it is the absolute greed of the players. I'm selling stuff most times so cheap that i don't really earn gold with them.
And there is one simple reason: It's a game. I can't use the gold anywhere else. So why not doing some others a favour?
