VR2 DK sword and board - need advice on balancing stats

Hi guys,

I'm a Dragon Knight but not sure yet if I can tank or not. Currently, I invested 6 points in Magicka, 16 in Health and 25 in Stamina, and still have 2 points in store, unsure if I should use them for Magicka or Stamina.

Problem is I need Magicka to use DK skills, Stamina for DPS and quite a bit of Health to resist range attacks when I'm facing sorcerers or archers. I can't use potions in battle, for some reason the Q key hardly ever responds, so I eat some food that boosts magicka and stamina before a fight and just dragon leap in there.

The strange thing is at times battles are easier when using 2H weapon where I'm only lvl 42 than using Board and Sword where I'm lvl 50.

My question is what would be your advice to balance Magicka/Stamina/Health for a wannabe Tank, DK Shield & Sword, Heavy Armor?

I'm considering rebalancing my stats but I don't wanna goof it - costs quite a lot of gold.

Thanks for any advice you might wanna share  . Cheers to all!

I'm a S&B, Heavy Armour Templar tank and I've been going 0/2/1 ( Magika-Health-Stamina) but I'm only level 44 and in no way a pro.
My thinking is though, if your deficient in a stat at end game couldn't you just make it up in gear rather than respecing?

Ditch the heavy aromor. Dont even consider it till they fx the armor system. Stack all Ap in health. Light armor mitigtes as much damage as heavy does. And the benefits far outwiegh any you get from heavy. I tank in light armor now tith my dk . He originaly wore heavy until i learned the truth about armor, magica, health and stamina.

    I'm a heavy armor temp

You can make up any gap with armor gyphs, so it is not a terminal problem. They fixed health gyphs so it doesn't matter if you use skill points or gyphs for points (ratios are all the same). 10pts for sta/mag 15 for health.

So it matters less what your stats are, rather than the total stapoint counts.
    example:
    M 21
    H 16
    S 12

    M 1892
    H 2088
    S 1843

I made up my STA shortfall with gyphs.

I also have a sta regen buff and 2x sta cost reduction rings so I get more miliage out of my sta for blocking. Don't know if DKs get equiv. skills

Don't skimp on the magicka especially if you are using class skills for defence (their effectiveness scales off of magicka). I need decent magicka to keep the stats up on my AC buffs, regens, damage sheilds, not just the cost to cast them.

You will do more damage with 2H, so fights will be faster, if you live.

S+B will let you stand and take a beating longer, and you will take longer to kill stuff. That's the tradeoff.

Take a look at tamriel foundry and browse the dragonknight class theorycrafting section.

Thanks for replying, guys, and thanks for the link Tordr86b16 - I already had checked TamrielFoundry's tips, the thing is I'm playing in French and half the skills and perks names they mention are very different from English's, makes them real hard to identify.

Anyway, I'm amazed that some can tank with 0 Stamina and 0 Magicka, even using glyphs and Mundus to buff them. Stamina is the one I always run out faster even though that's my highest stat. And yeah, I use Magicka for defence too.

I considered dropping the Heavy Armor too if it was not for the fact that I never bothered to level up light and medium. I'm starting to think my problem is I invested everything in melee, I've been saving perk points to try range abilities though. What's the deal with using a new ability when you're over lvl 50? Do you have to slowly level it up all the way or do you start with damage stats that reflect your character level?

You have to level new skills post

A good method is to rack up your second bar with skills you are leveling, then change to it just before turning in a quest, all the quest XP goes into the new skills. You can say "goodbye when you see the reward screen. flip to bar 2, then talk to the npc again to claim reward XP, so it isn't a big deal.

But you can always just put a skill on your bar and level it as you kill, just be aware it will be underpowered until you level it up. Skills actually level pretty fast until they get morphed, then they slow down.

it is not a good idea to use a full bar of new skills in VR.

Thanks a lot for the tip, that's good to know, I'll do just that once Iv'e decided which new perks to try.

IMO throw all your points in the Health, all your glyphs in to Magicka. Use the undaunted taunt which works off of magicka. Use your stamina for blocking and don't bother using any of the one hand attacks that wasted stamina. DK has plenty of Magicka based abilities that are far more usefull.

For mine, I run 19/30/0 on my HA tank DK in VR. My main stamina drains are puncture, shield charge, and blocking/bashing, The magicka is for green dragon blood and your other class skills. GDB and a potion every once and awhile should be enough Stam to get you through boss fights. Landscape mobs, with the VR nerf, shouldn't make you bat an eyelash.
