Nightblade Help- AOEs..

Any tips on the AOEs for the Nightblade? The class seems to be severely lacking in any powerful aoes that are CLASS SPECIFIC.

the best AOE on the Night Blade class is Drain Power and the Power Extraction morph for it.

Combined with the siphoning passive Transfer and having Siphoning Attacks active you can spam Power Extraction almost infinitly and recover as much as 50 ultimate with a single cast of it, allowing the spam of Ultimates at a rate no other class can do.

Using the Power Extraction spam you can also spam Soul Shred fast enough to stunlock mobs, casting a fresh soul Shred before the first stun wears off.

if you are not solo then Veil of Blades is more powerful than Dragon Knight Standard both offensively and defensively, otherwise i say use Soul Shred, for the stun.

I really wouldnt suggest playing a NB for AOE. NB excells at single target damage and primarely burst single target damge

How do you get 50 Ultimate in a single cast of Power Extraction? Critting on max targets? 9+18 from the passive. Very rare circumstance but I get those numbers. Where does the rest come from?

i have no idea, i havent played my NB since before 1.2.3 so the changes from that likley effected ult gain..

I was getting those 50 ult per casts in a undead dungoen with Evil Hunter active so maybe the hits and crits from that contributed..

either way, since Power Extraction can hit 9 targets it generates more ultimate than most other DPS able AOEs.

We used to get 3 ult on crits, it was nerfed down to 1 ult per crit.

this isn't how a NB should be played, we're not adequate spammers like DKs or sorcs, playing a NB actually takes timing and coordination, takes skill to play a NB right.

As a NB, we rely on our ults for most of our aoe which are easy to fill up if you have enough crit...which we do

I shouldn't need to point out that dictating how a NB "should be played" goes against the concept of this game (whether it's currently living up to that or not).

AoE is usually spam for all classes. NB is no exception and can spam with the best of them with the right build.

If you want to take them out one by one that's an acceptable, if slower, method and can be done as a NB using CC and cloak etc and is, of course, more fun. As was pointed out above, however, NB Ult gain was nerfed with the Ult from crit reduction a few patches ago. Ulti gain was nerfed to control the DK Ulti spam. Collateral damage. I can't think of a way around that other than having it different for NBs which is messier coding I'm sure.

I solo public Dungoens as easily as i do on my DK with just Power Extraction spam, I get Ultimate so fast i just stunlock enemys with ultimate spam in between a salvo of power extractions. Blocking while doing this with Siphoning attacks active was infinite thanks to endless Stamina so healing is more or less not needed.

This game is 90% spamming the most effective move... For NB that move is Power Extraction. and since Siphoning attacks can proc on each enemy hit by a AOE NB can spam AOEs better than Sorcerer, who have to stop casting in order to recover with Dark Exchange. they just have extremely small numbers of ones that are worth spamming..

Fighter's Guild passive Banish the Wicked: at 3/3 = 9 Ultimate PER Undead/Daedric killed. That is likely how he was getting so much Ultimate.

To the OP, unless you want to go stick/skirt and use Impulse with Sap Essence then you are certainly limited compared to DK/Sorc in the AOE department. The other option is Whirlwind with Power Extraction and use Refreshing Path as a self heal. As a NB we can do well at surviving AOE pulls but our damage output isn't OMGWTFPWNBBQ like many would like it to be, and that's ok it doesn't need to be super leet. For any build you should be using Veil of Blades Ultimate.

Also don't forget Volcanic Rune. It may only be a one and done but it's amazing.

EDIT: Forgot Caltrops, it's actually quite useful in PvE even with it's huge cost.

Veil of Blades is a must IMO.

Drain power & it's morphs combined with either impulse or whirlwind works well.

Volcanic rune is the best AoE CC we have access too as well.

Sap essence is probably one of the best skills in the entire game (for pve). So, you do have good AoE options as a NB.

Sap Essence + Veil of blades. Also add force siphon with refreshing path dot if you require more heals also use light attack on the siphoned target and siphoning attacks for sustain. I linked a video of me in action using this combo.
