Looking for a good fire focused Dragonknight build for Dark Elf

I do just fine while questing and in solo dungeons but run into serious problems when attempting the main questline. Anyone have any good links to suggest?

no suggestions? Anyone? Bueller? I need to figure out something. I can afford to respec and have plenty of points saved up - but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

Anyone who can pass on such a build will earn my gratitude and the future assistance of a build you trust?

My biggest MMO experience was with City of Heroes... that game had a number of high end gamers who fostered others as they leveled up and rewarded those who know how to listen to good advice.

    Anyone have any?

Well not knowing what you've built up already, and what level you are makes it hard to give advice.

I personally put as many skill points into the darkelf passives as possible, they mesh with the DK abilities perfectly.

I went for heavy armour, and built up those passives too. And sword and board for the weapon, but only used the first weapon skill out of that line. I also unlocked silver leash from the fighters guild line, so I can pull undead/daedra in and smash them up close.

I unlocked the spiked armour and iron skin passives from Draconic power for survivability. Also magma armour and Obsidian shield from earthen heart, but I was experimenting, and don't use Obsidian shield much now, probably shoul.

From Ardent flame I unlocked fiery grip, and Flame Breath, and Searing Strike. But searing strike got relegated when I unlocked Lava Whip. I also morphed all of these, but in hide sight the searing strike morph was probably a waste.

Now because I'm playing 3 characters (I put my nightblade on hold or it would be four) my DK is only level 28, and he's my highest character. So if you need more advice, I'm probably not going to have it, sorry.

    I'm currently lvl 49.

i chose dual wield (because i like the look of it - but i could change that if it will help)

i took all the ardent flame abilities (Ult, passive and active)

    also took...

    Draconic passive iron skin
Dual Wield passive DW Expert, twin blade and blunt
    heavy armor (all passive)
    fighters guild (1st 3 passives)
    mage guild persuasive will
    dark elf (all passives)

I know i need some armor and more regen - but not sure the best route to that.

like I said - above has done me fine on questing - but surprisingly not so great on main quest (2nd to last mish failed miserably - Manimarco - i assume final quest would be as much of a mess).

I'd hoped to outlvl the lvl 40 mish but the swarm is out of control.

Not sure about levels 49&50, because I'm still 21 levels below you, but veteran levels it seems to be all ight armour and destruction staffs.

But Zos will have to fix that at some point.

Oh and you last post, the fist paragraph, edit out the last word.

Thanks - some tips from that got me past the quest that had been stopping me. V1 and off to a new land now.

This is an old thread, but just to confirm, yes the main quest is a bear, with ridiculously overpowered enemies and impossible situations. I am playing a DK Dark Elf and had to wait until I was several levels above each quest to even stand a chance.

I will say this: I played a sorc with a destro staff my first time through and I wanted to concentrate on duel wield this time around...DK with heavy armor. I found out the hard way that once you get into the vet levels and in the group dungeons, you HAVE to have a ranged weapon of some kind. Bows seemed a little underpowered and since my guy is all about fire, the inferno staff seemed like the only choice...again. I don't think I have seen anybody play with an Ice or Shock staff...ever.

When I decided to add the inferno staff as my second weapon, it only took about two weeks to level it up to 50 and get woodworking up to 25 (when the good perks start), so it was easier than I thought it would be.

The inferno staff is, IMHO, the best weapon in the game simply because you can shoot fireballs all day long at range and if they get too close you can knock 'em back about thirty feet with Destructive Touch/Clench then resume blasting. You also get Force/Crushing Shock, a great ranged DPS tool, but the most valuable tool is Impulse and either of its two morph possibilities. AOE greatness. Combined with Dragon Standard, you can kill virtually any number of powerful mobs. I like to run through an area and get as many to pursue me as possible, then hit 'em with the Standard/Impulse combo and watch em burn.

When I meet groups of mobs with, say, an archer, a sorcerer, and a melee guy, I use Petrify/Fossilize from the Earthen Heart skill line to freeze the sorcerer for 14 seconds, then pursue the archer with the inferno staff/knockback combination, never giving him time to set up a Volley. The melee guy is chasing me and lamely whacking my armor while this is going on, but you are usually moving so fast chasing the archer that he cant set up a heavy attack. After the archer is dead I deal with the melee guy with the staff/knockback or with with Silver Bolts/Shards if I am out of Magicka. By this time the sorc is out of his stunned state, but is now receiving my complete and total attention until the moment he dies.

If, at the end of dealing with multiple mobs, I still have one guy left and I am almost out of gas, I will use Fossilize on him to give myself 14 seconds to drink a potion and regenerate some health, magic, etc.

But make no mistake...if you get a boss by himself and he is not immune to being knocked back by the staff, you own him. Flame flame pow. Flame flame pow. Eff you, boss. haha

From Ardent flame I unlocked fiery grip, and Flame Breath, and Searing Strike. But searing strike got relegated when I unlocked Lava Whip. I also morphed all of these, but in hide sight the searing strike morph was probably a waste.

Searing Strike, and it's Morphs are DoT. This couples wonderfully with Sea of Flames once you unlock that. Here is how I handle multiple mobs: As I go in, I ignite Sea of Flames, Hold Block, then spin in a circle giving each enemy a Searing Strike. By the time I make one rotation, they are usually dieing or near too it.

If you build up some mana regen with Jewelery or Crafted Sets, Sea of Flames can almost be on the entire time your in a dungeon. The only thing I do don't like about it, is it won't turn off after the battle, so sometimes I forget and run around with it on. While you can run SoF for a long time, it does cut down on your other mana based attacks while using it, so keep that in mind.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

PakKat "Everything was going well, until I died"
Gary Gravestink "I am glad you died, I needed the help"
