What affects hirelings performance?

We know that these factors affect hirelings:
1. The number of points in the hireling line.
2. The number of points in the materials line (that is, if your highest material is voidstone, your hireling will give you voidstone rather than iron)

Anything else?

Does your overall craft level affect hireling performance? If not, then a level 32 crafting skill for an alt would give you the maximum opportunity to get rare tempers, and there appears to be no point in getting beyond level 32 except for the raw mats (or potency runes).

What about other skills temper expertise, aspect extraction, etc.?

Since these would most likely be small changes in the percent for the RNG, it'll be extremely hard for the player base to reverse engineer this one. You'd have to collect info for thousands of hireling mails in order to tell even at a low confidence bound.

When you say most like a small chance, does that mean the answer is "yes" to the additional factors, like crafting level?

A lot of people say that crafting level above 40 is useless. But if it improves hirelings, then people would go for 50, even if it improves changes by 1%.

Sorry, was conditional ("would"). Personally, I doubt they have it depend on anything but the 2 known factors you listed above. It's work to code that in for nothing, really.

It appears the number of points in the skill line don't matter either. I have a lvl 7 sorc with the default 1 point in the skill line of clothing and 1 point in hireling (clothing skill is lvl 9)(the only points in clothing tradeskill) an I get all kinds of vet level raws, both cloth and leather.

you will never get vet lvl materials if you have 1 point in the skill line , you will get jute etc.

I have 8 toons. 6 of them have multiple 3/3 hirelings in several crafts each. The other two have just 1/1 hirelings. The chances of getting improvements on the 1/1 hirelings are EXTREMELY small. Most often, it's just 3 iron ore or raw jute from them. Sometimes I might get a green improvement. Once or two (in the few months that I've had those 1/1 hireling toons) have I gotten a yellow improvement.

However, with the 3/3 hirelings on the other 6 alts, purple and yellow improvements are much more common. I go with the multiple 3/3 hirelings over several alts just to increase the chances of getting favorable RNG. In one day, I'm getting like 10 BS, Wood, and Cloth hireling mails, around 7 or 8 enchanting and just the 2 provisioning (from one 3/3 hireling). If I don't get at least 2 or 3 yellow improvements in that one day, I'm disappointed.

Most of those 3/3 hirelings are just rank 32 in said craft and 1/9 so I'll get just get iron ore and such because I haven't invested points to get it to 9/9 for the best ores and hides but the idea is to have as many chances as possible per day to roll the RNG dice and get a purple or yellow improvement. And getting tons of iron ore and raw jute can still yield yellows upon refining.
V14 Templar Argonian Healer, V12 DK Orc Tank, V2 Sorcerer High Elf DPS, V1 Templar Breton DPS, V1 Nightblade Bosmer DPS, and 3 low levels.

It would take them more work to code it so that overall crafting level affects hireling performance. But I wouldn't say that it's for nothing, though, because some players might expect that higher crafting level is better. At least for me, I waited until level 50 crafting before extracting a large stockpile of raw materials.

What makes me feel like there could be more than just the two factors i've listed is that the tooltip does not distinguish between level 2 and level 3 hiring in terms of item rarity. However, I think most people would agree that level 3 is better than level 3 not only in terms of frequency, but also in the rarity of the items obtained.
