ESO forever trial.

I think adding a free trial for the first 15 levels would be a good thing for ESO. (Try first dungeon and weapon swap)

You would be stuck in starting zone. (not noob island)
You can't trade.
You can't mail.
You can't talk in Z chat.
You can't whisper unless whispered to.

They would be restricted to a trial Cyrodill.

Trial only forums (we can post on trial forms as well. )

I think adding a level cap instead of time (10 day free trial) is a better method.

    Yeah, I can dig it.

I did the trial for WOW and got a good idea of what that game was all about. I decided not to subscribe as a result, but I wouldn't have even considered giving it a go if it wasn't for the free trial.

I mean it would be nice to let people actually test out the game before hand.

This doesn't have to be soon (I suggest before console release, but then again who am I)

The only problem I can see with it is Cyrodiil. The experience in a trial cyrodiil would certainly not be representative of the actual game.

Perhaps just lock out PVP entirely. There's still streams and youtube videos for them to get an idea of the PVP.

Well the trial only Cyrodill would only be level 15 players so they don't have to worry about a VR20 emperor destroying all of them.

I get that, but the amount of trial players wouldn't be very high, and who is going to want to play in a trail Cyrodiil beside a few people with friends doing the trial.

Point is I believe there wouldn't be enough action in the trail cyrodiil, therefore it would give a bad image to perspective buyers.

I do believe all those who wanted to try ESO would have already tried it, either by buying it or playing at a friends house.

The overall idea is great. But I have to agree with simply not having PvP in the trial. I can't remember if wow allowed PvP in the trial or not but even if they did, they don't scale your stats in attempt to make you more survivable in an environment where you can be slaughtered by players many levels higher than you. Instead wow runs multiple instances of PvP zones with various level ranges. Cyrodil is a come one come all once you hit lvl 10. That being said, even lowbies in the full game can be fairly decent PvP friends and enemies. Although being of veteran rank helps a lot, a player in a trial version wouldn't get the right experience whether that is the ability to be horribly ganked or joining a small squad of higher lvl players to indulge in the ganking. Granted there is more to cyrodil than strictly PvP, but trial players wouldn't be able to experience much of it the way it plays in the full game.

Time would be better. If you want people to try something, let them try it. Nobody wants some watered down version. That would just *** people off at every corner they turn. I would not pay for a game with a trial similar to those old ps1 demo discs.

I'm surprised they haven't yet. Or at least did the bring a friend thing at release. I know after FF14 release they lost tons of subs but after their first major content they did a free weekend trial. That was only 3 months in. I think they will do it at some point since it just makes sense, just not sure when. Maybe after a few more content patches and some actual bug fixes they will do it to allow players who left a chance to see they have fixed things.

The minimum a person would put into the game is maybe 2 hours a day, so that's 6 hours.

I see no problem with just gating trial players in the first 15 levels, they will crave to progress and buy the game.

well then maybe I'm confused on what is considered free to play.

I considered SWTOR free to play. It sounds just like this, most functions are cut off, all you can really do is level, only allowed in PVP, dungeons and raids certain times per week if at all.

that is a free to play game, they focus mostly on Micro transactions to keep their game going, and some people can still subscribe and get the full game. SWTOR is a Free to play, despite the fact that you can still sub for it, so maybe what you call a "demo" (which to me is not even a full level, no saves or anything, like the Wow demos at best buy back in the day) and what I call free to play, in reality are the exact same thing

Okay, lets get real here. What mmo player do you know that only plays for 2 hours a day? 4-12 hours is more realistic.

3 days would be the perfect hook.

Well trials tend to be "free to play"also they are stopped at level 15. Wow stops you at level 20.

Now I did a Pandera Trial not to long ago that lasted 10 days. That was time based.

Now i'm thinking a free to play is any game that you have access to it's servers, with out having to pay a monthly subscription. amount of content involved is irrelevant

The trials for the expansions are timed because people can literally hit the new level cap without the expansion.
