Crafting skills? Skill crafting?

I wish I didn't have to choose my class when I start the game. I think I should evolve into a class. I can imagine having a pool of 300 (or 500) different skills I could choose from, those skills could be morphed too and there could be several levels of morphing.
Depending on what style I liked I could choose the skills I wanted. In fact what if we could "craft" or discover new skills? Like in real life some people have unusual skills and talents, no idea how I would implement something like this in the game.
Also, the way we acquire skills could change, we should have a limited pool from the start and we should be able to spend points on the skills we like. It should be very flexible and if we did not want the way skill worked we could spend that skill point/s somewhere else. I wonder what other players think about it and if anyone could pitch an idea of how to implement skill "crafting", it would be very interesting. ESO could evolve into improved skill system, there is already a good foundation in game (skill morphing).

@Kos‌, did you ever play any of the standalone TES games? This is exactly how they were set up...

You had Primary skills (leveled you the fastest), Secondary skills (about half primary), and then you had everything else...

You could literally play as you wanted, because you could advance all of these. Some just advanced faster than others.

You also had more stats than just Health/Magicka/Stamina.

Put all of these things together and you could literally allow your character to evolve into whatever he/she was going to become.

Setting out to play one way, and finding yourself playing another (without the penalties that you incur doing so withe ESO's current setup*) was one of the coolest aspects of the games.

*(Sure, you can respec...by try you can't switch primary skills at later levels and not take a serious hit in the process...)

It allowed experience, circumstance, and the world around you to shape you into what you would become, which was often quite different than what you set out to be.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

IRL'ing for a while for assorted reasons, in forum, and in game.
I am neither warm, nor fuzzy...
Probably has checkbox on Customer Service profile that say High Aggro, 99% immunity to BS

Hey Merlin. Yes I played Oblivion but I forgot why I liked it so much... And I think you reminded me why - I could use any skills I wanted, I could use swords or staffs and I didn't have to look for shards or farm skill points. I spent so many days/months playing Oblivion and as a matter of fact I remember now thinking back then how great it would be to play Oblivion online with people. I would still go further and there would be no primary or secondary skills, we should be able to choose them while playing without any penalties. Any skill lock - be it a racial or a class skill - will always create controversy in an online game. Developers will spend ages trying to fix the balancing issues and they will never succeed... They could spend more time developing new content or getting rid of the bugs.

It all boils down to how much damage you can do, how much damage you can take, and how much damage you can heal.

Picking a class is just for a playstyle, not for a skillset. Everyone pretty much has the same skills/options.

    Bosmer (Wood Elf)
Moonlight Crew (RIP), Misfitz (RIP), Victorem Guild

VR16 NB, Stam build, Max all crafts.

Azuras & Trueflame. Mostly PvP, No alts.

Semi-retired till the lag is fixed.

Love the Packers, Bourbon, and ESO...one of those will eventually kill me.

Well I thought so until I saw some people's posts about how some classes are op etc. We can't deny class skills are subject to heated discussions... Best solution - get rid of class-specific skills...

Really won't do anything. People will just complain about overpower skills and cookie cutter builds.

This is kind of how it is right now. Obviously, stamina needs real attention to make it competitive with magicka, but you shouldn't be forced to use only class skills unless you want to.
