[MAIN STORY SPOILERS] Who did you sacrifice for the good of all?
Howdy all! Just wondering who did you sacrifice for the good of everyone in Tamriel in the last quest of the storyline. Personally, I really disliked Varen Aquilarios and thought that he is the one responsible for all that has happened (provided that Mannimarco and Molag Bal got what they deserved) and so the choice was simple for me. What about you?

Simply because many main story line protagonists have made mistakes before, yet we dont always hold them personally responsible. Like in the case with many TV shows, books, and movies. The main character makes a mistake, but then seeks retribution to set things right. Abnar Tharn however, seems to be quite deviant, and appears to only have changed sides due to his own need for self preservation. Falmer✭✭✭✭Varen AquilariosI chose Varen on my first character. I chose Sai on my 2nd. Not sure if I will choose Lyris on my 3rd here or not... I like her too much.
I could rationalize Varen easy enough... He's not going to live much longer anyway and it was his lust for power that sort of started the whole mess.
Sai, A man of honor. Would easily give his life for the cause and to die a good noble death. Plus, he may feel like a failure should he live and either of the other two die. So had no problem choosing him on the 2nd time around.
Lyris, doesn't fear death, but she doesn't seem to relish it either.1 -

And I think Varen was strong but it's hard to be blind and to live with knowledge of the Elder Scroll.

demenzia✭✭✭Varen AquilariosVaren. That's the only right choice in my opinion, even if we could choose Tharn, I wouldn't choose him. First of all, Varen has to atone. He wanted to be a dragonborn so badly, but it was stupid to trust Mannimarco and too dangerous to do the ritual. Secondly, it must be not easy for an emperor to turn into a blind old prophet. I thought it was right to let him die as a hero and save the Nirn, cos without his sacrifice it wouldn't be possible.1

It always puzzled me why he decided to trust a necromancer and then sounded so surprised when got betrayed by Mannimarco.

Funkitron✭✭Varen AquilariosI chose Varen. Would have liked to sacrifice Tharn for being a smarmy little ... but I probably still chosen Varen even if it was possible.
Sai agreed to be sacrificed because he felt like a failure for his being unable to protect Varen. Considering he managed to not give up the location of the amulet after years of torture at the very most he deserves to be slapped in the face and told to harden up. Which being that he is already damned near as hard as steel should work.
Lyris excuse for wanting the honourable death to go party in Sovngarde was a bit weak tbh. She's young and has far too much ahead of her. I mean she looks like she's barely even old enough to party as it is. Get a few drunken tavern excursions under your belt before you go making a fool of yourself in front of all of Sovngarde little missy.
And Varen, imo, is the only one of the three for whom the honourable sacrifice will actually mean anything. The other two are already swimming in honour. Varen was a good man, he just did some stupid things and let his greed get the better of him. But I liked him as the prophet and think he'd done a pretty good job of atoning for his past actions. I mean in the grand scheme of things it was that filthy elven Mannimarco's fault anyway.
Varen was the only one of the three who's sacrifice would actually atone for anything he'd done wrong and regain his honour. As he was willing to go through with it he won the prize.2 -
