Is quoting someone in your signature naming and shaming

Would you consider quoting someone in your signature as naming and shaming them? In all honesty if you said it then it's on the forums already right?

If it's something amusing or noteworthy then I guess it's okay but if you're quoting someone's stupidity then they can report you for it

As Valn says (and it is common sense), quoting someone can be mocking them or complimenting them. All depends on context and intent.

Don't think the naming and shaming policy makes all that much sense to begin with though, at least the way its implemented.

Typically naming and shaming only refers to negative/stupid/etc stuff. Insightful or epicly positive statements are usually ok.

Just leave off the name if youre paranoid.

During beta a person argued that ESO was going to be F2P. I told him it was going to be P2P. He said you can quote me on it. So I did.

A few days later ZOS announced it would be P2P, just like I told him.

The next day the Mods removed my sig and told me I was naming and shaming the guy.

Of course this meant he was ashamed and was a big puss and reported me.

Taking a quote from another thread and placing it anywhere (signature or another post) is breaking the Forum Code of Conduct. Trust me on this one....

I used to have a few somewhat amusing flames said by other players in my sig when i played Star Trek Online that according to ST Online Mods was considered naming and shaming, so i guess yes..

As others have said, it depends on intent.

EDIT: Noticed someone's comment further down, about validating their dislike of another person. No clue if that is the reason for this post. I ought to have considered context before posting. But, these forums have been a bit crazy last couple of days.

Had someone quoting part of my signature the other day, but it was an appropriate use therof.

It's nearly always down to context, which can't be reflected in a poll.

Replace the redacted with a link to the thread and let someone find it on their own :p
I mean it's not like anyone who was paying attention to the thread in question didn't see that open mouth insert foot policy being shared with us.

It does make sense, it prevents which hunts and pointless arguements.
If you have a genuine greivance with someone then call the Zos Mods over it.

Why must one be so vindictive, cruel, and petty that they want to use their signature to pubicly humiliate another on a corporation sponsored Internet gaming forum?

What does one gain by lording another's error over them? Do you want everyone to know that you were right and they were wrong? Honestly, what is the point?

Don't use a poll to try to invalidate your hate against someone else. Very few are going to have any sympathy for you.

That being said it is the intent of the words. Most mods are going to err on the side of caution also like opinions everyone's humor is different. What you see as funny and witty other see as rude and degrading. If in doubt don't do it or use names.

I agree with the others who say that it depends on purpose and content. Quoting a mod or official release note should be OK. Quoting another player's informative post or something you are replying to should be fine. When you take something out of context or quote something to hurt or embarrass someone that is most certainly not OK. I do not think that yor little poll here is OK either.

It makes sense in my opinion. Whatever they did wrong should stay between ZeniMax and the person who supposedly committed the wrong doing (and possibly the victim, if there is one). A mere negative comment can incite a mob justice wave that could possibly do more damage than whatever the 'culprit' committed.

I've been named and shamed before for a rule I didn't understand, however it was a rule I still broke. I lost online friends over it, people I considered to be nice, friendly people. That hurt, but then people I didn't even know and that weren't involved with the situation were suddenly wary of me, to the point of even ignoring my posts. That hurt more, because not only did I lose friends, I lost the chance to make new ones. I learned my lesson with the warn, I didn't need the ensuing wave of metaphorical whispers behind my back.

If the person is guilty, a warn or ban is plenty enough punishment, no need to have people jumping on a bandwagon waving pitchforks and flaming torches.

On topic: Context is important. If the quote is not intended to mock, insult or otherwise bring negative attention towards the person being quoted, I personally do not see it as a problem. Clarification from a Mod is needed though, what may seem permissible by one person might be crossing a line to another.

@systemiK Love the quote as well.....but are you naming and shaming me????? Oh the horror!!! My posterior might be getting a little injured.

To everyone else....I understand and agree with most points said. This was in no way an attempt to validate anything I or anyone else may have done, rather it was an honest question which I was curious about how the community felt about quoting others in their signature. Thanks for the replies/comments!
