Please Fix Fishing!

So the latest patch has come out, and you STILL can't loot green/blue fish! The families of we few remaining fishermen in Tamriel are going hungry! Also there is that whole section of achievements that are unachievable! I know it's not seen as a big priority (obviously) but I kind of enjoy being able to RP a character fishing in the middle of a bandit camp.

There have been some nice little changes made to fishing so far. I hope they continue to improve/fix it.

Make it usable again and reimpliment provisioning, and let us talk while we fish are my only two complaints with fishing. But balancing out stamina and majika are far more important then fishing atm.

Also fixing the animation cancles for fishing. Those abusing the animation cancles can fish out a hole at a slightly faster pace than those who are playing normal. Everyone should wait the full time between catching something and casting again.

Yeah too few of us that fish, and too few reasons. I suggested tackle being usable from banks, but that didn't go over well from those that responded.

I have fished in every MMO from EQ on, and I have to say this is the only MMO where I hate to fish.

At the very least just make the title & achievements attainable. I can wait for improvements, I just want it to function. And I want the 1000 worms back that I wasted in Stros Mkai after the patch notes said it was fixed. Not really, I just want it to work.

Thankfully, we can - and have been able to for a while now - fish and talk at the same time. Thankfully!

Wait, are you saying it's impossible to catch rare fish? Because that would make so much sense... every now and then I would reel in my line and get no loot at all. No fish, no nothing (this was on auto-loot enabled, so I did not see what I was 'supposed' to pull up), and I yet have to see a fish that's not a white item. *scratches head*

So ... I'm just wasting my time, correct?

This I agree with.

For what is meant to be a pleasant past-time and a good way of fishing up useful items/artefacts/ingredients etc, it is a royal pain in the bum - doing anything at all cancels the fishing, so that rules out any sort of interaction with people around you (with the exception of voicechat etc) and whenever I do fish up something interesting like a wet gunny sack, my little jump of joy is dashed on the rocks when I open it to reveal something that I already have 100x of.

I hope things have changed, but I haven't really been back to the water-side to notice.

I am sure they appreciate hearing your feelings but if you want to get something changed, tell them the reasons you feel this way.

As a player there are things I would like to see changed like having fish usable in alchemy or provisioning, or being able to sell trophy fish for a little more gold. Maybe getting a special title for completing a fishing achievement like "old salty dog" or "world's best fisherman" etc. Just venting frustration tells them you want change but saying how you want things gives them a better idea of what needs to be done.

Oh Dear, I haven't tried fishing yet so I had no idea it was broken like that.

When it comes to MMO's I've definitely always been the type of player who (to the eternal torment and detriment of those who deigned to play along with me) instead of rushing to end game on the ultimate quest for epic domination I like to stop and smell the roses. Like, a lot.

I fish, I cook, I collect things, I wander off in the direction of bright lights. I always figured there is no one way to play, as long as you're having fun then you're doing it right, but this... this fishing bug doesn't sound very fun!

No one fishes, its a total waste of Code. There are no supplies for food or potions involved. There are no, Surprise!!!! Sea monsters to attack you on occasion to make it momentarily exciting. You do it to get a super rare fish to have it disappear into a Achievement window and be of no use ever. ROFL, worst fishing mini game in the history of MMO's.

Fishing in eso isn't bad,defiantly need to add fish you get that can be used in cooking.and the bleakrock achievement is bugged you won't get it when you catch the fish.I liked fishing in other mmos. I see potential for it.

I think it's a general shortsight in ESO that bringing up interface windows disrupts whatever you're doing at that point. It even disrupts emotes like /sit just so your character can strike that fancy pose when you look at them after hitting the 'inventory' button. Which means "tavern rp", which apparently is what Zenimax imagines roleplay to be, is as unlikely to happen as any other form of expression where you actually utilize the wonderful emotes we have. One look at your inventory screen, your friend list or anything else and your character jumps up again.

Fishing appears to have been an afterthought or at the very least something they implemented and had to lower in priority as far as usefulness went. It is one of those MMO staples that somehow made it into the game but other more practical features did not.........

Fishing was also nerfed at some point if I remember correctly, no?

Just another part of the game that was released live before it was ready.
It was planned to be useful in that you could exchange fish you catch with the Fish seller NPC's on docks for items.
Fish up little treats,
Use fish in recipes,
Trophies to keep, ect.
But none of this was implemented as they didn't have time before the game was pushed live by the 'suits' for their cash grab.

It would be nice if fishing was better done, something like the fishing in Zelda Ocarina of Time would be nice, only not in a seperate site.

Best fishing experience i had in an mmo was in lord of the rings online. But I agree with posts above that zos has higher priorities at the moment. The state of this game is embarrassing.

Fishing should be a mini game time waster.
Something we can go and do when were burnt out grinding on mobs.

That is the biggest problem I see in ESO today, apart from grinding there is nothing else todo.

Please, yes please fix fishing. Of all the time sinks you could implement to keep people playing, this one would be the least offensive to those who don't care to fish, but would give those who do a reason to stay!

Just to be clear:

• Currently, yes, there are some rare fish that cannot be caught, or when they are they don't update in the Achievements. But the vast majority are able to be caught.
  
• Chat is now able whilst fishing. It will no longer automatically break your characters line when initiate to type in the chat window.
  
• Although clearly subjective, on the whole, yes, nice 'surprises' whilst fishing can be gotten. For example; Kuta can be found in gunny sacks. If that's not a nice surprise to a player it's doubtful anything would be. Could there be more 'surprises'? Sure, but that's always the case with anything in-game. It's more of a matter of being happy with what one's got.
  
• Finally, If someone is fishing for the sole purpose of getting material 'rewards', then fishing is likely not for them. They would be better off spending their time in-game doing something they enjoy more.

I still don't get the point of fishing. It doesn't really 'do' anything does it? It seems like a 'watching paint dry' kind of activity. I caught a fish, open up my inventory and couldn't really do anything with it. Now, if it could beef up a recipe or something, maybe there would mini-game there.

I keep assuming something will be added later to make this meaningful.

Exactly, it NEEDS to be more than cast and wait until the float goes under.

The method should be more interactive, we need to move the bait through the water, too fast and the fish stays away, too slow and it doesn't bite, move in the right way and the fish bites.

The act of bringing the fish in should be more active too, we should be fighting the fish, tiring it out, but do it too aggressively and the line should break. Too much play and the fish escapes.

Anything would be better, and this is from someone who does fish in the game.

I have for almost a year and a half.

My comment was to the OPer, letting him know he is not alone.

Fishing improvements:

• Allow first person mode.
• Make it a mini game. Right now it is just boring.
• Let us find a super rare motif (Sea Scale) or magical mount.
• Make the fish usable for cooking.
• I want to find trophies I can mount in my house.
• Let us find quests in bottle, boxes, etc.
• I want to find a cursed person who was turned into a fish that gives an epic quest.
• Bait should not take up inventory space or let us find/make a fishing bait box that holds all bait and fish.
• Let us be able to do emotes and other small things while fishing.
• when we are fishing, give us the option to be sitting in a laid back chair, drinking a beer.
