Read Much?

Just curious how many people read the books in the game - and how many of them. In the other TES games, it was easy to stockpile books and read them at your leisure. Now you have to read them when you find them. Has it had an impact?

I try, but when you're in the middle of something it's silly to expect people to read 3 or 4 pages. And if you're in a group, forget about it!

I rarely read the shelf books. I'm saving the lore books for later because most of them have volumes, and I don't want to read Dwemer Ruins part II & III if I haven't found the first one yet.

What I do always tend to read however are the random books and scrolls lying around the world. Many will revel locations, and most will give you some interesting background or clues about a quest.

I read all the new books anyway. Many books are copies of books found in past single-player games. I already know them pretty well, since they have been read many times over the years.

I missed the spoiler about Eidetic Memory. You do get it, but unless it was fixed in the last patch (I didn't check), it's bugged and doesn't show half the books I read.

I started off stopping at every bookshelf and note to read it in full, I think that stopped some when around Stonefalls (after Blreakrock, Balfoyan) and mostly because the items I wanted to stop and read would be within agro range of monsters, it become too much frustration to stop and read if I was attacked and had to stop all the time.
I do one day plan to sit and read through as many of the items as I can from the lore library in the journal however.

I read some of those more interesting ones, if you know what I mean..

But most books are guarded by an angry mob that respawns too fast, and I honestly never really tried to read a book again, even though I could, due to eidetic memory..

I try to read the new ones as I find them but that isn't always practical. I'm not that into The Lusty Argonian Maid though I did meet the playwright back in Vivec City on Vardenfell. Wait…that was in the future, how could I read it in ESO? That aside, I do read the Khajit books because they are always fun.

A lot of the time, while questing, you'll find books that will add depth to the quest you're on. They're honestly one of the great parts of the game. But if you stop and read one while with a group, you're going to get yelled at for holding them up.

I wish that instead of adding the Lusty Argonian Maid book into ESO, & making up a lame reason for it to be around in the 2nd Era, that they had just written a brand new innuendo-filled naughty story unique to ESO. We need a new tongue-in-cheek dirty tale in the franchise, Lifts-Her-Tail has been played out... :P

I read all the letters, journals, orders etc. About the book, it depends if it sounds interesting or if I have time. I usually read the ones i find at the start of a dungeon, it will most likely describe the end boss or a ghost I will meet there, etc.

Occasionally, mobs respawn 3-4 times on me before I can read the book :P

I'm kind of a mix between if the book is interesting and if I have time/willingness to read. I'm particularly fond of lore books that deal with issues of a practical nature in regards to the world (such as books that deal with spells, weapons, etc) and about the different races/provinces. Don't care too much about historical books and random stories that bear little relation to the world at large.
