✭One reason I love this game so much is because it is much more like Game of Thrones than other games, minus the dragons :9 Maybe Age of Conan comes in close, not sure. But I don't think anyone plays that game anymore sadly.0 -

I've always been convinced that a whole lot of Martin's inspiration came from the War of the Roses. I mean, it's obvious he's a history buff, otherwise he wouldn't have got so many details of medieval life right. I don't think that Martin got his inspiration from TES. According to Wiki, it was conceived while he was writing Avalon.
just saying the lore behind it is similar, nobody is saying that martin got his inspiration form TES just that TES and GOT were inspired by some of the same source matieral
Might also be the French 14th century and the infighting between the Capets and Plantagenets before the 100 years war where he draws some inspiration from based on a forward he did in a translation recently http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26824993

Game of Thrones is by no means overrated. For me It's the best series of all time.
2nd best I'd put Breaking Bad, third maybe The Sopranos.
Every hour I watch I just keep wondering how does the time go so fast. I mean there is ton of movies that last 1h 30min, and you just keep looking at the time how much longer will it last.
Speaking of which 10 hours per season, that is like 5,6 movies. And when you look at the quality and effects, it's just astounding how they manage to create such epicness that fast. It's like watching whole trilogy of LOTR every year.1 -

aw the tv show is amazing if you have not read through the books and is going to be its own entitiy and universe once they catch up to martin.
I constantly read how people are excited about this show and wonder if I too would have that euphoric feeling had I not read the books. I mean, part of the hate for the show stems from the length of time it has taken him to write each book. Years go by. I used to follow a blog titled 'Finish the book George' or close enough to that.
Glad it has fans but it is just a gratuitous T&A show that takes very little from the books.0 -
