Is anyone else having trouble earning gold?

Bear in mind, I'm pretty new to ESO, only playing for about a week and now at level 14. From day one, I started saving up for a horse. I've been selling about 90% of my loot, not buying anything, and I still only have about 6k. Is anyone else having difficulty with this?

Gold will be hell for a long time. 47k for a horse. Bank upgrades will kill you. Bag upgrades are bad as well. Repairs will be a constant gold sink. Don't even think about a respec.

Gold will be really bad for a long time. Then at high levels, you will not know what to do with all of your gold.

ESO does not have any real gold sinks. Just a bunch of uphill battles to make the game functional and then nothing.

I think its wayyyyyy too easy to get gold in ESO. I remember in other mmo's where I was saving for months to buy the best armor and mounts. Here I just have a *** ton of money and nothing to do with it

Sorry Widow I have to disagree with ya. Gold has not been hell for me at all. Some tips to ease the burden on your coinpurse:
    1. Travel for free. Wayshrine travel from your map has a cost which is quite steep at low lvls when you're not making much. Do yourself a favor. Walk to the nearest wayshrine. Hit 'E' to use when it prompts you. It will open up your map. However, because you're traveling from a wayshrine, there is no cost. I never pay to travel.
    2. Don't repair. Just replace worn out gear. I actually don't follow this one myself but I usually have crafted/dropped and upgraded set pieces which would cost me more to replace than the repair fees. If you are a crafter and your gear isn't terribly special consider just replacing it though. Also don't hit 'Repair All' at a vendor if you unequipped broken gear and it's still in your pack. Repair all does indeed repair everything you have, including things you're not wearing. Decon or sell first and then repair.
    3. Get in on the market. There are several routes you could choose, but the most effective will have multiple means of income.
      • Crafting. I chose three professions early on and leveled them up steadily to max. These have been the bread and butter of my money stream. Join a guild store and post some of your wares on the market. I also pay attention to zone chat and guild chat. Crafted items in this game can be highly customizable. Often it's best to make gear or enchants to order rather than trying to pawn off generic pieces. People will often ask in chat for a crafter who can make X. Know what you can and can't do and respond when you can. Custom orders will be your big moneymakers as a crafter.
      • Raw Materials. If you decide not to go the crafting route, you can still make good gold selling your finds to crafters. Raw ores, wood, and cloth sell very well. Some found alchemical reagents, provisioning ingredients, and runes can net decent coin as well. Even as a crafter, I'll occasionally sell excess materials that I collect over time. Know what you need to have on hand within reason. You don't need to keep everything.
      • Other Commodities. This is basically a catch-all for provisioning recipes, motifs, costume pieces, etc. If you go this route, you can make decent coin as a middle man. Buy low and sell high(er). It's very important to know your market if you do this. Know the general value of something* so you aren't demanding unreasonable prices or discounts. Know how to haggle but politely.
    4. Get a cheap horse when you can. If you save enough gold through the 3-20 lvls, you should be able to afford the common horse at 17.5k. Commence with stuffing that horse to full with oats. You can always get a second horse later and upgrade it in a different way. This horse is your pack horse. Every horse upgrade costs 250g. 250g for 1 space in your backpack. For 10 spaces, that's 2500, which is much cheaper than the later pack upgrades. I bought only the first two pack upgrades. All the rest is my horse. It really does make a world of difference. I almost never get a full inventory while adventuring since doing this.

    * Learning the general value of items comes with time and is best learned by paying attention to chat and the guild store sales history (if you're part of one). Just starting out, don't be afraid to do a price check on an item in chat. However, keep in mind people may deliberately mislead you in the hopes you'll sell to them. You should eventually get a reasonable estimate, but your first response is probably going to be 'The going rate is free to me' or some other nonsense.

I'm thinking about doing a "how to make gold in ESO" type video to go with my PhinixUI, however I'm not exactly rich myself. (I currently have about 190k at Veteran 4.)

One of the best ways to make money is to join some trade guilds (they advertise in zone chat quite often). You can be in up to 5 guilds so feel free to join more than one.

What I find reliably makes money is to post all the items you find that have researchable traits on them (Divines, Well-Fitted, Exploration, etc.) on a Guild Store for something like 350-400g each. Trust me, people buy them.

Also save your raw materials (raw flax and other clothing materials, iron ore and other blacksmith materials, and raw maple and other woodworking materials), either for when you have 3/3 in the extraction trait for those professions to increase your chance of getting rare items for refining them, or to sell in stacks of 100 on your guild stores as they will reliably sell for between 1000g and 1500g per stack.

The reason for the high price and why you should NEVER sell your raw materials to a vendor, is because with 3/3 in extraction for the relevant craft, you have a good chance of getting rare (and valuable) upgrade materials used for upgrading end-game gear.

As you would imagine, people looking to upgrade end-game gear tend to have plenty of gold to spend by then. ;)

Other than that, sell any white items to vendors and deconstruct any green items that don't have researchable traits at a crafting station to level up your crafting if you want, which will help you get high enough (level 40) in a craft to get full 3/3 points in extraction.

    Hope that helps!

I did neither, but I'm also not rich. I spend my money about as quickly as I get it (not on repairs and respecs mind you. more like goods from players/ guild stores) But I can make enough in a day or so of the above to pay for a respec. So I'd call myself 'comfortable' :P

Yes . it is hard as a VR12 mostly self found and self crafted that doesn't like to play the stupid flipping items minigame or the sell/buy raw mats minigame. But that is the case in most games that have "economies"/puke

Do NOT buy the cheap horse, it is 17k wasted.

selling raw mat seems make best sense, easy to find, and good price.

I had only 40k all the way to V3, then just farmed rare motif to 150k.

Pretty much ^THIS^ and save, save, SAVE. I keep about 3-4k gold on me at all times, the rest goes into the bank.

Don't sell gear, research or deconstruct it. The material often sells for more than the gear does. It is different when you are taking about blues or better or set items. But for trash whites or greens decon.

Also you can make a LOT of money selling raw materials vs refined ones. Some people buy stacks of raw for 1k each. They are making a profit as well because they have the skill points to give them higher chances for upgrade materials, so they refine the raw and hope for rare materials to sell.

Will my horse be slower over all at max level? Will there ever be a reason to sell it off and buy the more expensive horse?

Gold is really unbalanced at early levels. It gets a lot easier to come by as the game moves on. You'll notice a considerable difference around lvl 25 or so. As already mentioned, if your going to craft stuff make sure you are researching now and not selling it. That will be far more important than gold down the road.

The imperial edition, cash store and the normal horse have the same stats. The other 3 horses have a boost of 10 points in one stat.Horses have a level cap of 50 so in the end your horse will have 10stat points more. I can live with that until I am rich. At the moment the only real appeal of the 47k horse for me is the color and the fact that it would take almost 2 months to reach the level of my current horse.

The only reason to get a mount is to use it for extra storage space.

If you pvp a lot you might want to save up for the light horse and feed it to make it run faster. There's no point in investing your gold in making the cheap horse run faster.

This is another bonus of joining a large trade guild (or 5). Most people know you can set up chat filters to hide guild chat, and create a new tab that you can switch to if you want to see what certain guilds are saying.

What many people strangely don't seem to know however, is that you can get FREE TELEPORTS TO WAYSHRINES WITHOUT GROUPING by simply bringing up any of your guilds' rosters, right-clicking a player in your faction in a zone you have access to, and teleporting to them.

You can then port to any other wayshrine from there for free. The money and time you save really does add up. ;)

Get the teleporter mod. It allows you to port to any friend or guild member. You select the zone you want to port to and it gives you a list of people in that zone that you can port to for free from anywhere.

Also you don't really need a horse much while leveling up but you do need bag space even at high levels. So I would wait and buy the 43k carrying capacity horse first.

Buying a couple of backpack upgrades early on will make your life easier and allow you to carry more stuff which helps you get richer faster. As you pick up higher level gear you will find that it sells for more to vendors.

I am currently spending 750 gold a day upgrading horses even on days when I don't play much. I have the speed horse and the carrying horse on my main and an imperial horse on my provisioning character. I could just sell off some ingredients on my main character to make room but instead I pay 250g a day to increase bag space simply because I can afford it.

I reached level 50 last week and I haven't been playing since release. This isn't old money I'm talking about.

    *snip*

You don't need this addon. That functionality is in the game already. Open your friends list or guild roster and right click on someone in a zone of your choice.

Keep in mind they will have to be your same faction.
If they're in VR zones, you have to be VR to get there. Craglorn included.
