Question for my fellow nightblades...

I have an old lower level VR quest in some AD zone to kill two storm atronachs of about 13k HP each. None of my interrupts, stuns, roots, etc. work on them. I try to kite them but they slow me and catch me before I can burn them down. I am a good nightblade but by no means a top tier one. For those of you who are experts in our class, what build, skills, and strats did you use to solo these things? (Only interested in answers for soloing -- obviously groups can murder them.) Thanks.
The only substitute for victory is overkill.

Im not even sure it is possible to solo a storm atronach :|

Use /zone chat plenty of players are always stuck on that step, some will help because they hate them.

Could you post up the name of the quest so i can see if I remember it/still have it to complete on mine?

Certainly I remember Storm Atronachs in general were the bane of me... If i remember right they see through invis too?

The quest is called "The Storm's Call" in Malabar Tor. The objective is "Collect Thunderstones from the Storm Atronachs" (need 2 of them).

I really would prefer to learn how to play better and be able to solo the content. I have got to believe there are nightblades who have soloed this content. I am always amazed at the ingenuity and skill some of my fellow nightblade strategists have demonstrated.

It really isn't very feasible to solo a storm atronach in this game, especially for a Nightblade. I had to wait for other players to show up to help with the storm atronach kills on that quest even though it was a non-VR quest for me. Good luck with that in a high level vet zone…

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

When the storm atronach closes in, try using Veil of Blades (60% damage mitigation and decent dps) to keep yourself alive.

Yes this is definitely possible, I just killed about 30 of them yesterday to finish of my Daedra Hunter achievement. They are VR5 for me. Granted I am VR12 and have some gear, but I never got below 90% health fighting one of them, so it should be possible at lower levels. And yes sorry, you will need to use a resto staff. It's very difficult to solo them any other way. I use 7/7 light and two resto staves.

    First bar:

    Funnel Health/Swallow Soul
    Cripple
    Immovable
    Mage Light
Literally whatever you want here, Impale or Killers Blade would be good for execution DPS
Veil of Blades (most important part)

    Second bar:

    Quick Siphon (very important)
    Mutagen
    Healing Ward
    Dark Shades (also very important)
Whatever you want here, Mirage, whatever
    Veil of Blades, doesn't matter

I charge up my ultimate on Fire Atronachs, which should be easy to kill. I start fight stealth, cast Dark Shades, then cast Quick Siphon, switch bars, activate Mage Light and Immovable, run in, drop Veil of Blades, and then light attack/Funnel Health, weaving in Cripple when the dot fell off (they are usually dead before any of this wears off for me, will take longer obviously for lower level). The combination of Veil of Blades and Dark Shades leads to a huge reduction in damage, coupled with Quick Siphon and Funnel health, which gives you good healing. If Dark Shades or Quick Siphon falls off, quickly switch weapons, block and recast, cast a heal if need be while on the second bar. Switch back and go to town. If you go low on mana, which you probably will, 1-2 heavy attacks with the resto staff will get you enough to finish the fight.

The key is Dark Shades and Veil of Blades. Just stay within the huge red circle and they can't hurt you much.

A good VR12 Nightblade in epic gear and fully damage oriented can bring down the storm atronachs... Its pretty much pop veil of blades and bring everything you got down on them because you have about 20 seconds. You want to sneak and try to bring them down to 70-80% before the fight even start (goes for all bosses, heh). If the fight take longer, you're probably dead. Sparks can help avoid alot of melee damage (ie all), but the AoE still hurt and is insanely hard to dodge unless you got decent latency (ie dont play on the EU server).

If you arent that Nightblade, do the next best thing - bring a punchingb... I mean friend.

Along with Gargoyles, Storm Atronachs are the hardest non-boss NPC's in the game to defeat, so yeah, it takes some sacrifices and builds to beat them.

I couldn't do this at VR5 when I first went through and didn't come back to do until VR9.

Well, most of you do not pay EP I guess. Those things are VR9 for me, so even at VR11, they are tough as nails. I wish they were only VR5.

Basically all you need is a resto staff and Quick Syphon. Seriously this is all you need to make most bosses in the game childs play. Great huh!

Amazing how 'difficult' and 'boring' become interchangeable when people talk about vet content. I'm sure the OP wasn't bored during these fights, frustrated maybe but when you have to think hard about beating a mob and experiment that's anything but boring.

What is boring is face rolling everything you meet without ever having to engage your brain.

I did this quest at VR9. I used sneak and waited by the door. When an unsuspecting player came by, I used a group invite sneak attack.

Seriously, I don't know if a NB can take these at VR 9 solo. The AOE will most likely one hit you (it did me) if you miss the interrupt, and standing that close to them will get you a pounding that is hard to heal thru anyway. It would take a lot of dancing to avoid the AOE if you try the ranged approach and, as far as I can remember, they are immune to knockback and stuns. A very formidable opponent indeed.

Resto staff really helps. Veil of blades + funnel health spam and rapid restoration/healing ward.

If you have resto leveled up and veil of blades, you should be able to do it.

Listen to @Worstluck he hit it on the head. Although I don't personally use Mage Light, the rest is spot on.

NB Solo = Veil of Blades + w/e else you want to do damage with a little self heals tossed in via Swallow Soul or Sap Essence or hell even Degeneration.

You still might not be able to solo literally everything in game but enough that it FEELS like you solo everything in the game.

But it is boring. Its been a hot topic since people first started going through it. Vr content has gotten the attention of the devs who have said they will be re-evaluating the VR grind content for the future. When enough people say its boring and the devs listed, its official, its boring. I think most people would rather make an alt and experience these areas stories with new characters than blowing through all the content with just one character.
