    I've got a gaming mouse, and assigned skills and weapon swaps to extra buttons on that. It's a lot easier than trying to move and press 1 or 6.

    How do you you guys, by the way, handle dealing with potions? We have the currently active one (I still use Q to activate it) but--if you want to switch between say, a health potion and a stamina (edit) in the heat of battle? Hold q down for a long press, switch to the one you want, release, then hit Q again to activate? Or open your bags and double-click it there? Or--something I'm missing? You can't map to individual slots, right?

    There is an add-on (possibly more than one) that lets you assign your potions to the F# keys.

    Not sure it's the same add-On I looked at, but the add-On I tried only changed what potion was in your Quickslot, it did not activate it. So I'd press, say, the "7" key and it would change my Quickslot potion from a health potion to a magicka potion, but I'd still need to hit Q to actually ~consume~ it. Or maybe I could press "7" AGAIN to consume (I don't think that's the case, though --- I think the add on just changed what was IN the quickslot, but still required you to USE the quickslot button).

    I use the numpad with my left hand while right hand is on the mouse for Left-mouse attack (charge for power attacks) and right mouse for block (while holding right mouse, left mouse press will interrupt).

    Numpad 4, 6, 2 and 5 are cardinal direction movement, Numpad 1, 3, 7, 8, and 9 are the five skills, decimal is Ultimate, Enter is jump, Plus is crouch, Multiply is Quickslot, Subtract is the "alt" UI-window functionality and since I use it rarely Delete is Synergy. I have the numpad Divide set up to pull up inventory, which I use more than other UI windows.

    All the commonly used functions all fit in the little square Numpad area. Oh, sheathing is on Backspace and Horse on H and Walk toggle on W since those are things I don't use often enough to warrant quick access.

    I cannot stand keyboard + mouse anymore either. I mapped the controls to my 360 controller with glovePIE (its free), with the following keymap:

    // Back Start (Crouch and AutoRun)
    Key.NumLock = Xinput.Back
    Key.CapsLock = Xinput.Start

    // A B X Y Buttons (Accept, Decline, Synergy, and Drink Potion)
    Key.E = Xinput.A
    Key.Alt = Xinput.B
    Key.X= Xinput.X
    Key.Q = Xinput.Q

    // D-Pad (Skils 1-4)
    Key.1 = Xinput.Up
    Key.3 = Xinput.Down
    Key.2 = Xinput.Left
    key.4 = Xinput.Right

    // Left Toggle (Movement, Push to Run)
    Key.W = Xinput.Joy1Y > .5
    Key.S = Xinput.Joy1Y < -.5
    Key.A = Xinput.Joy1X < -.5
    Key.D = Xinput.Joy1X > .5
    Key.Shift = Xinput.LeftThumb

    // Right Toggle (Mouse Move/Look around, Push to Jump)
    Key.Space = Xinput.RightThumb
    Mouse.DirectInputX += (XInput1.Joy2X)^3 *20
    Mouse.DirectInputY -= (XInput1.Joy2Y)^3 *20

    // Left Buttons (Ability 5 and Block)
    Key.5 = Xinput.LeftShoulder
    Mouse.RightButton= Xinput.LeftTrigger

    // Right Buttons (Ultimate Ability and Attack)
    Key.R = Xinput.RightShoulder
    Mouse.LeftButton = Xinput.RightTrigger

    Ironically, the controls (wasd/mouselook/LMB/RMB) is actually my favorite mechanic in ESO. If I could, I would use it for every MMO ever.

    But I understand, to each their own. And to you, it probably feels as terrible as the non-mouse look traditional mmo schemes do to me.

    So, without an add-on, people really just use one potion, or have to go through all that "long press Q, move the highlight, let go, press Q again" stuff? Or only ever use one type of potion in a battle?

    Really kind of a pain, and makes a lot of 2nd tier potions go unused.

    Part of the issue is likely equipment related.. Get a gaming mouse and a gaming keyboard. Gaming keyboards believe it or not generally allow multiple key presses simultaneously without locking up. This is called anti-ghosting.

    I use a Razor BlackWidow Ultimate. Trust me, with the right equipment, you will find it will work like no other control setup.

    Update:

    Just bought a cheapo PS3/PC controller and configured XPadder. It's already feeling MUCH less of a hassle, and I haven't even properly configured everything yet. I never realized character movement could be so ... easy. ;P No more cramped fingers!

    @ everyone suggesting gaming keyboard + mouse

    I agree wholeheartedly, yet simply don't consider ESO worth buying expensive gaming equipment. I don't nearly play enough games to justify such a purchase. I once had a nifty G15 when I still played WoW a couple of years ago, but the thing broke at some point. Maybe I'll make myself a gaming keyboard/Naga christmas present if I still play ESO by then ;P

    For years I have used a game pad(Belkin N15 before it became the Razer Orbweaver), and a gaming mouse(some type of Naga since they came out) and I find I actually have buttons left over to use for quality of life keybinds. I have used the same buttons on each to do the same basic motions, and the equivalent spells/abilities for every game I play. There are some really good keybinds on here if you just don't want to purchase the gaming mouse/ keypad though. I found switching to that combo in every PC game I play, made it worth that initial investment years ago.

    Since my mouse has a couple extra buttons, I mapped one of them to auto run. I can auto run and use the mouse to steer my character. Of course, I use the wasd keys some while in battle, but most of the time I don't worry so much because my pets are pretty good at keeping most things off of me. Perks of being a sorcerer I guess.

    Well, but that doesn't even remotely cover the abilities/key presses you're gonna need in a fight. The WASD thing was just something I mentioned since a WASD user can easily press Q, E, F, Y(Z on a non-qwertzu keyboard, heh), X, etc. which might be a slight advantage over someone using the arrow keys for movement. But that's really only a matter of personal preference, I guess, since there will always be plenty of keys one can reach with the left hand while steering. :)

    However, the mouselook is an interesting point. I only noticed today that ESO doesn't have any camera settings (well, duh) other than zoom, which is also kinda weird for a game.

    So what does your key mapping look like?
