Travel way too easy

Anyone else feel they made jumping around the map way too easy?

Not only are there wayshrines all over the place within a couple minutes travel, you can pay to jump to one--and,if you're in a group or have a friend on, you can jump to one for free with travel to friend (and then jump to any other one for free).

I know people think its all about convenience, and immediate gratification, but allowing people to teleport essentially at will makes the world seem small, and reduces the immersive feel. I feel like I'm just popping in and out of hot spots, avoiding "fly over" areas, and it makes it feel much less like traversing a real world.

I'm not stopping you from walking, don't stop me from porting.
People keep telling me they're gonna buy me an ale. They never do.

I'm old school and prefer having a feeling of the world having size and being a "real" place by having less in the way of portals. But given the way most games are now I think they found a fairly happy medium with this system.

At least it's not pop from this instance to that at every turn like a lot of other games.

The days when I wanted to run across 3 or 4 zones in order to do something have long, long gone. If you'd prefer to walk everywhere, fine, just walk if that's what floats your boat. It seems you are happier teleporting though.

Um, fast travel in Skyrim and Oblivion was just as easy and free.
Mucking about with this would annoy an awful lot of fans, like me.D:

I remember some of the old MMO having only town to town ports with crazy fees.

It was fun to actually walk to a hidden dungeon with few friends, make sure we don't get wiped so we don't have to wait for one another so-on. Travelling an hour or 30 minutes to get a sight of the crazy boss and try to get hands on the epic loots is fun.

Thing is, easter eggs are less or next to zero in current games. Information is well mapped online. In game markers are a must for the generation. Maps are reduced in size to offer more compact content. We could still do all that, but perhaps the age does make us more time conscious.

I could still remember the pain of walking across the continent to deliver a sword to a friend. I'm sure not many people would want to walk for 2-3 hours just to meet a friend and venture together, nor do they have the time to do that anymore.

I do agree, but some of the wayshrine fell like they are in awkward positions for me.

I don't see why people complain about things like this, if you don't like it, don't use it and get on your horse.

Pretty much - I prefer to run everywhere but sometimes you need to get stuff done or you're grouping and you need to get to the group.

I'll trade some of the immersive feel for not running into the bad guys I defeated earlier. I've finished the part of the game where the level 5 worm cultists/whatevers were defeated. If I have to go back through the area why are they still there? My character and the EP/AD/DC soldiers wiped them out.

If I use the shrines and don't run into enemies I defeated ten or twelve levels ago [and the story does force you back to the beginning areas, especially when you have to go to the Harborage to talk to the Prophet and do his quests] it actually makes my game *more* immersive.

I think they have the balance right. I prefer to run everywhere but when my main gaming partner is on he has only a limited time to play so the wayshrine system is very helpful. Plus the port to someone in a dungeon is great because I do not want to keep others waiting nor have to wait for them.

Yes, it's pretty perfect if you want to pop back to the city, sell some stuff, do some crafting, use the bank, then pop back to your quests.

Obviously you have you explore to find dungeons, books, and skyshards, so we are moving around the map. Just don't force us to spend twenty minutes travelling everytime we need the city/bank.
