As I've played through the Elder Scrolls online I have been struck by a bunch of questions or hang on I just don't get it moments.
Firstly Who Am I?
Wake up in Cold Harbour, escape and then I walk the world looking to help people. So far I have yet to see an option not to be to be a helpful sap unless I just don't do the quest and get no xp. Short of getting my soul back I don't seem to want anything in the world other to walk and help people. There doesn't seem to be any option to do anything but help people, am I some fallen angel looking to regain my wings? Or am I missing something where there is something deeper to the story that explains a goal in travelling the land agreeing to do whatever task anyone has whether its a farmer who needs some bugs to fish with or a king who being assassinated.
Who is Cadwell?
Prior to the final battle, it seems as if he has some secret which will be revealed as to who he really is. Only so far I haven't found any explanation as to his incredible power to be able to travel over coldharbour and be in multiple places at the same time. But it never seems to be explained and in the end he seems to be an idiot with supernatural powers despite never really explaining where they came from.
Why do so few people seem to care about Molag Bal?
Given the threat posed by coldharbour it seems that the vast majority of people, gods and other deadric princes just don't care. As such a massive undertaking that fill the final section of the level 1 to 50 experience the vast majority of the people seem ignorant of this. But more the Gods seem to be happy for it to happen and the other princes except one seem content to continue along with their plans. It never seems very clear why so much falls to the Vestige and why no one seems to give a damn if he succeeds or fails. Which seems odd given the consequences, there is not even a thank you from the various rulers.
What is Stibbons deal?
The Breton Experience aside where I felt a little bit robbed by my choice being negated come Cold Harbour it seems that any enemy that meets him falls in love with him. What is that all about, it seems completely out of place like some sort of in joke with the developers. But I can't understand it and then after saving him twice he seems to just disappear.
Evil is just cooler?
It seems that all the 'good' guys are useless and would have lost their crowns, lands, lives or whatever where it not for some random stranger coming along to save the day. While all the bad guys are capable of acting on their own and working towards their goals. More often than not mid way through a quest I would be more than happy to swap sides with my allies often being worse than useless and idiotic. Infact when the choice to have someone sacrificed I was just unhappy I could only pick one person I would happily have done the lot. Let alone let any of them live once the ritual was complete. Sadly though this wasn't the case. I can only think of a handful of cases where I have felt anything close to respect or fondness for any of my so called allies. Are there quests out there where its cool to be good or is it just a case of playing a spineless yes man helper monkey you just aren't going to get any cool moments. I'd be hard pressed to think of any RPG where as the story progressed I've felt so powerless through out despite being a killing machine far more capable than any of my allies.
With some much of the experience tied to the story it would be nice in the future if there was more options and a more personal experience as to why I'm helping all these people. As it stands it often feels like quests are just a mechanic to award xp and gold rather than a way to advance an interesting narrative offering depth and perspective to enjoying eso.
