Yes, I think it was a mistake not to implement one. I also think it's probably a bit late now to do so.
If you can be anything, be kind.

There would not BE a huge use of chat for trades if there was a central location all players could go to sell/buy, like an auction hall.....just sayin' for maybe the 100th time.

Auction house would be terrible on a mega server.

I also agree on a trade chat. You could make one, but if enough people wanted it Zenimax probably would put one in. Maybe start a petition or something.

If that is, in fact, the case (and I'm not conceding that it must be) then what about auction houses? Say, one auction house for each faction, or per zone etc. No real reason we must choose between ONE or NONE is there? Better is better even if it isn't perfect.

    To, Too, Two. - There, Their, They're. - Were, We're, Where. - Your, You're. - Then, Than.
    Homophones, not synonyms.

So many people want an auction house(which is understandable) that if they implemented one and it wasn't 10000% super awesome and perfect on day one they would get even more hate than not having one. The problem with auction house in any way is because then the market would get too flooded with stuff and prices would drop quickly. Not to mention an AH would have had to been something they started working on a long time ago to implement any time soon, but I think they knew that the bots would be a problem and went with guild trade to lessen market crashes. (Just my 2 cents)

Really surprised they haven't added a trade chat already. How hard could it be?

In my experience with online games, Trade Chat does very little to curb WTS/WTB/WTT messages in Zone chat. Mainly because people trying to sell or buy stuff know that most people turn off Trade Chat most of the time. So they wind up spamming Zone chat anyway. Then when people ask them to use Trade Chat, the Zone chat erupts into ridiculous tirades from two camps arguing about it.

Why would someone post in trade chat when they can just point in zone where more people will see it?

Because zone gets flooded with it, meaning that other messages (such as requests for help with boss fights, etc) "drowns"

Make trade chat faction-wide. Then it's better than zone chat for trading purposes.

This. I don't see the value in a Trade chat, unless there was some continual policing of Zone chat to keep people from spamming WTS/WTB messages.

I'd be satisfied with some chat filters so I could turn the WTS/WTB crap off.

Trade chat WOULD be nice if traders would learn to stick to it.

An AH would be terrible as look at just all the Motifs attempting to be sold in chat.

Item upgrades would run rampant all over the AH. THEY ALREADY are rampant in the chat.

Any item that ever dropped you couldn't use would be on the AH, and that's 99% every item in the game.

Anytime you thought any item would be nice to have you'd undoubtly find it in the AH.

I filter all that crap out, with addons from esoui.com so I never have to see it, unless the odd bit gets through my custom filters. Ditto with any comments involving guilds (in about 6 languages), werewolves and vampires. It makes chat a lot less busy and a bit more interesting

Or just fix the game and add an AH.

Some spam filters silence those spamming their WTB/WTS/WTT offers. I have it set so I rarely if ever see them.

What we really need is a universal auction as pretty much all other games have.
This is the one thing that's missing for me.

I get all these great drops that I know other people could use but I don't want to spend the time spamming chat trying to sell it.

And I'd love to be able to go to an auction and look for the items that I need to fill out a set. So far I haven't had 5 of any set drop.

But I'm out questing, I don't want to start at my chat window all the time.

I'd love to be able to go to the bank, place my for sale items in it, and look to see if anyone has anything I need for sale.

If I get into crafting I want to have a place to sell my stuff.

To me it feels like a whole part of the game that's missing.

I also don't think we should be forced to join a guild and pay them for the privilege of selling or buying something, then dropping the guild when I'm done. Guilds are supposed to be static, but something tells me people are joining and leaving constantly due to the inability to sell or buy something.

I'm going to call it what it is. A DUMB IDEA. Maybe started with good thoughts, but implementation has too many negatives. Give us a place or GUI so we can sell and buy from and to each other directly without the need for a guild.
