What is the best means of getting "in phase" with a group member?

I think "in phase" is the correct way of describing this. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The situation is this: You group with another player to do a quest. You discover that one player has done the quest, and you may have started it and not finished it, but the player in your group is invisible except for the white arrow. The logic is that the world has changed a bit for the player that has completed the quest, but has not changed yet for you.

Ok. You say let's find a quest that neither of us has done before and start fresh. What is the best method for restoring your status as a group in which each player is visible to the other?

BTW, I personally wish there was a way for a player to "revisit" a quest that he or she has completed so this type of disruption would not occur. I successfully revisited a World Boss that I had previously defeated with a group member who had not encountered this boss, and it was quite fun and successful. I know World Bosses do not have an impact on the overall story to a zone, but it seems within the realm of possibility that a player (grouping with someone who had not been given a particular quest) could reenter that "phase" or "instance" temporarily while grouped with that player who is new to the quest.

    Teleporting to them, probably.

Like Rosveen said, the best way is to teleport to them.

To do this, right click their name in party and select "Travel to player". I've had many phasing issues with friends, but thus far, I have not had any troubles getting into their phase by travelling to them. If we had more than one person in the wrong phase, we all travelled to the group leader.

With World Bosses, I don't think it matters if you've cleared the Zone, you can still return to them to kill them. However, you may encounter phasing issues if the person you group with hasn't done the same.

The best way in this case is to start working on a quest that none of you have completed yet. Also beware of dialogue options in RED when talking to NPCs. If you and your mates decide to choose different options in the dialogue you might get out of phase again due to world having changed differently depending on the option you choose. The best way in these cases is to cancel the dialogue and discuss with your group members on what option you want to choose. Hope that helps.

Given the way the game manages grouping, the best way is to have done exactly the same quests as him. That way when you go to the same area you'll be in the same phase, and going to a new area won't seperate you.

And yes, it is a stupid way of doing it.

If nothing else works, and you want to work with a friend and you're half way through the mission and they've only just begun, deleting the mission will also work. You'll just have to pick it up again (Or your friend can share it with you), but you're going to be working through it again with them anyways, so it's really a win win for you both. I've done this several times, and it works well.

Just be sure to delete the right mission.
If you can be anything, be kind.

if its not a personal quest then teleporting to the leader works. make sure the leader is where you both want to be. if it doesnt work, try ungrouping then repeat. if its a matter of being on diff quest stages then one of you or both could abandon quest and start over together, but make sure you agree on all future choices in the quest line to stay together in phase. be aware that even if you do that some quest conclusions are solo only.

Hey, thanks a lot! I was aware of the travel to player option, just wasn't sure if it was better than a complete log-out (which may not make a difference at all). Of course, abandoning the mission and reacquiring it never crossed my mind and that makes a lot of sense!

I do wish that Zeni eventually smooths out these rough edges in grouping because, in my opinion, that is a huge part of what makes the game exciting. There have been so many times when I've run with other players doing the same objective, and feeling that special kinship with them, and yet not having the chance to group because you're afraid that the hassle might disrupt the experience.

    Glad you found it useful.
And yes, Zenimax have said they're working on the issue to make it easier for us all to get together.

over the last week or so, just being grouped with them and walking around, i was auto-added to their phase without having to relog.. it was pretty cool. not sure how robust that system is quite yet though.
the only time i found this didnt work was when a member of the group was on a different instance of the area in the questline.
