Truly I was doing ok, fight after fight, untill I get to "Enter the Doom Crag" and meet the Gargoyle.
Well it appears you have a hells own job of killing him, but better still if you get sick of him killing you and take a break, guess what, bloody Zen has decided you start way back at the first encounter, you get to do it all again.

What DH designed this one?

Just about had it with main story line quests that you have to be 5 or more levels higher than you are to even compete in much less win, or they are bugged.
What's more I'm stupid enough to pay for it!

End of Rant, still pissed!

*sigh* I've answered this multiple times now.
The Gargoyle in the second section of Doomcrag is used to destroy the statues (just hide behind them). Like all Gargoyles you kill him like you kill any Troll - with burning, but it's not really necessary because if he's killed they spawn a new one and when the last statue falls he's killed.
Oooh look, lot's of Butterflies! Wait! Butterflies? Get out of here Sheo, stop bugging me!

Yup - just guide him to destroy the statues. They damage him. No bug.

Don't worry dude, I had been playing after too many beers when I entered doomcrag and was not really paying attention to what the vamp was saying, I just slapped the bad guys etc.

Gargoyle dies, then you get a couple of undead, then another gargoyle, etc.etc.

I was getting burned down after about 8 gargoyles and I noticed the *hints*

    oops

bit of a facepalm moment. Rest of it went ok after that

Maybe next time this should teach you to actually read. It tells you what to do with the gargoyle.

This part of the quest sucks! Period. I hated it the first time around and with my second character hate it even more this time around. It's beyond frustrating even understanding how it works. I just logged out in disgust after trying and only getting one of the items broke by the /censored Gargoyle. This IS NOT FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I killed about three Gargoyles before one hit a statue and I realized that was the objective. Breton Vampries bore the hell out of me so I wasn't listening to them at all; maybe that would have helped with quest but I still managed fine against the endless Gargoyles and Skeletons.

God forbid they create situations that aren't "go kill X" and then expect you to pay attention when you are explicitly told just what you need to do...

I read the hint about destroying the statues, but never grasped that I needed the gargoyle to destroy the statues. I kept thinking that maybe the statues become vulnerable to my attacks between waves of of enemies or something like that. It took me running out of resources and running from a gargoyle in terror before he accidentally ran into a statue and I figured it out.

It's not how the quest works that's the problem. It's how stupidly hard it is for a light armor. I don't recall; is this quest necessary or can I just pass it by?

Some tougher creatures like Gargoyles are actually really easy to kill when you learn their weaknesses.

I was stuck on this same very quest, only because Verandis actually never mentioned in the quest text that you have to lead Gargoyle to the statue, though he did say something to keep an eye on the statues before he began casting.

The good thing about this quests is that it made me learn how to fight Gargoyles at least lol, I managed to take 10 of them down when I realized I'm doing something wrong lol.

This fight is easy even on vet and one of the few fights in the game that require actually following a mechanic rather than just hitting you too hard.

This is probably the only fight I can think of where you can kill the mob w/out ever using a single attack.

Just stand behind the statue you want the gargoyle to hit and wait for him to run into it.

Do that 3 more times until they are all broken and then he dies. It's stupidly easy to be completely honest.

Also, paying attention to instructions can be pretty helpful at times, both in-game and out. :P

I also killed about 10 of them before I got this right. Funny thing is I had several that were different from the others. Some were resistant to some of my spells (Boss gargoyles? taking 3x as long to kill) and some weren't.

It's a required quest in the Covenant storyline. It isn't hard if you move and dodge.

That's the problem with people skipping quest dialogues.
They should implement more quests like this.

I did this with a random person and kept telling her to guide her to the statues and once she did we WON. One thing about this game is it's not all kill this mob to get the quest accomplished. Sometimes you have to do different things.

Did you let them pound the ground? That pumps up their health regen and makes the battle longer.

#edit It's another advantage of using a sorcerer who summons, you get to stand back and observe the fight while the summons get in close. You get to see the abilities, strengths and weaknesses if you're paying enough attention and have fought enough of them consecutively. Guess where I picked up the knowledge to combat Gargoyles and Trolls and why ;) LOL

tbh standing off in this fight is not good, the gargoyle will petrify you etc from a long way off. You have to be close otherwise the sucker will CC you

You can block the petrify. At least I can with my templar... sword and sheild. no ability used.

No. I interrupt everything, because I'm a mean person :D

It went something like this (as a melee templar). All of them had the same name and "boss frame" over their hp bar (default UI).

1st one was hard. Mini-boss type immunities. Could not cc whole buches of "you target is too powerful" on a lot of secondary effects of my attacks. Completely immune to one of my skills.

2nd one shows up. Goes down a lot easier/faster.
3rd one same (assumed I was in a groove).
4th hit skill 1st one was immune to on accident and it sticks. notice that "target is too powerful" isn't being spammed in the corner of my screen. this guy was definitely not a boss, but rather a "hard overland" mob.

5th another badass, I wonder if I was imagining things.

    6th easy
    7th easy

    8th badass

    9 easy

10 badass accidentally completed mission kiting it around to regain sta.

I can solo them forever, same with trolls, just takes a lot of time.

Yeah, this was pretty much me too. I kept trying to find ways to destroy the statues without realizing that I needed to get the gargoyles to do it for me. I was tanking for probably 10 minutes, barely surviving, before I happened to end up in a spot where I got a gargoyle to destroy a statue. Then I figured it out and completed the fight quite easily.
