Well, the title pretty much says it all. I'd love to see weapon ultimates added to the game, and Im sure that Im not the only one. I was wondering how you could do it, and kinda came up with an idea that I think would really work well...
Ok, we'll use two handed weapons for the example... When you activate the ultimate, it uses the same concept of the sorcerer "Overload" ultimate, in that it replaces light and heavy attacks with more powerful versions, (who wants weapon ultimates that are one click cast abilities? we want the visceral feel of swinging the weapon. It is a WEAPON ultimate after all lol) which have the same damage increase/ultimate cost of the Overload ultimate perhaps, stopping it from being too overpowered. Or you could increase the ultimate cost, and have each strike take a set percentage off the targets health, which decreases with every level above you they are, and takes a drastically less percentage off of elite mobs health, to stop people taking down higher level mobs and elites in a mere few strikes. But my idea for such a weapon ultimate doesnt stop there... I was also thinking that if you deliver a killing blow to an enemy with an ultimate strike, instead of delivering the blow, it activates a finisher combo, similar to finishers from Skyrim. Could even have them work on bosses. Making being the one that deals that final blow all the more satisfying when you see your character execute some heroic finisher animation on said boss. Another awesome feature would be if the type of finisher you execute depends on what strikes you dealt to that target previously. As in if you used different combinations of heavy and light ultimate attacks, a different finisher was executed.
I think this kind of ultimate is what weapons deserve. Something visceral and involved instead of one click cast and forget abilities. And the idea of having finishers that are dependent on what combination of strikes are used on the target adds a sense of skill, involvement, and style, by chaining the right kinds of attacks to achieve the finishers you want to execute. You could even give this ultimate to all weapons, having them all work the same way. Sort of like weapon mastery for that particular weapon. "Two Handed Weapon Mastery", "Dual Wield Mastery"...
And you could change up the animations and available finishers depending on the weapon in that class. Like greatswords having their own animations and finishers, two handed axes having their own etc...
I'd love to see this added. It would make weapon combat much more involved, and a much bigger part of combat in general, as well as making it much more fun and rewarding.
